The PSOE in Seville demands an investigation and sanctions for those responsible for the toxic baits found in the parks of La Rosaleda and Sevilla Este. It also criticises the closure of dog parks without alternatives.
The Socialist Municipal Group in the Seville City Council has called for an urgent investigation into the appearance of baits with toxic substances and sausages with needles in the parks of La Rosaleda and Sevilla Este. Several dogs have been affected by these elements, which the party considers to be of "extreme seriousness".
Socialist councillor Juan Tomás de Aragón has pointed out that "leaving poisoned food or items with sharp objects in a park poses a danger to animals, but also to children, families, and anyone using these public spaces". Therefore, the PSOE demands "maximum severity" in identifying and sanctioning those responsible.
The socialists have also linked these episodes to the decision by José Luis Sanz's government to close dog parks without offering adequate alternatives. According to the PSOE, this measure has generated "growing tension" and has not resolved the issues of coexistence, but rather transferred them to other areas.
"The City Council has not eliminated the problem, but has displaced it. Closing dog parks without a nearby and viable alternative increases pressure on general-use spaces and generates new conflicts," stated Juan Tomás de Aragón. The socialists criticise the choice to close these facilities "without exhausting other options", such as regulating hours, establishing usage rules, improving maintenance, enhancing surveillance, or seeking agreements with residents.
The PSOE also highlights the contradiction between these decisions and José Luis Sanz's electoral programme, "which included a commitment to create four dog parks per district". Three years later, the group denounces, that promise "remains unfulfilled while existing facilities are being eliminated".
The Socialist Municipal Group will demand from the City Council detailed information on the number of dog parks closed during the term, the alternatives offered in each case, and the degree of compliance with the electoral commitment. Meanwhile, it calls for enhanced surveillance in the parks and for keeping residents informed about the progress of the investigation.
The events have generated alarm among pet owners and park users, who fear for the safety of their animals and people. The appearance of these baits adds to the controversy over the closures of dog areas, which has led many owners to use parks and gardens shared with children and families, increasing conflict.
The City Council, for its part, has not yet commented on the PSOE's demands. It is expected to provide details in the coming days about the measures it will adopt to ensure safety in public spaces and address the situation of dog parks.
