The Socialist Group in the Sevilla City Council has denounced the proliferation of illegal racing, drinking parties, and noisy gatherings in the Eastern District, attributing it to the lack of Local Police officers.
Socialist councillor Juan Tomás de Aragón has pointed out that the recent incidents on Avenida del Deporte in Sevilla Este are the last straw for residents, who have been enduring these situations for months without an effective response from the City Council.
Motorbike races and loud music
According to the PSOE, these problems are not new. De Aragón has recalled that they have been warning about motorbike races on the Torreblanca boulevard and gatherings of cars with loud music on streets like Doctora Navarro Rodríguez, which prevent residents from resting.
Residents, as the councillor explained, repeatedly call emergency services for help, but do not receive an effective response. The local government, he adds, is limited to making media announcements and promises of security that never materialise.
Unfulfilled promise of 400 new officers
The PSOE has reproached the mayor, José Luis Sanz, for failing to fulfil his electoral commitment to incorporate 400 new local police officers into the Sevilla workforce. For the socialists, occasional interventions or operations that are activated only when problems hit the media are insufficient.
The opposition demands a permanent night surveillance and prevention device in the black spots of the Eastern District, which includes immediate reinforcement of the workforce, preventive checks for alcohol and speed, and greater coordination with the National Police.
The issue will go to the municipal plenary
The councillor has announced that they will bring this issue to the next municipal plenary to demand detailed explanations from the Security delegate. The PSOE will request specific information about the number of officers assigned to the Eastern District during weekends and the reasons why the response protocol to residents' calls continues to fail.
Meanwhile, residents of Sevilla Este continue to suffer the consequences of a situation that they claim has become unsustainable. The lack of a strong response from the City Council keeps the residents alarmed in one of the most populated areas of the capital of Sevilla.
