The fifth edition of the Pepe Suero Popular Music Festival will take place on September 4, 2026 in the Plaza Poeta Miguel Hernández in Seville, with free entry until capacity is reached. The event, organised by the City Council through the Tourism and Culture Delegation, will kick off at 10:00 PM and will feature four artists from different generations: Arturo Pareja Obregón, Fraskito, Javielito de la Cava, and Bella de Sousa.
Tribute to Popular Music with Artistic Direction by Antonio Ortega
Under the artistic direction of Antonio Ortega, the festival aims to pay tribute to the legacy of Pepe Suero and create a meeting space around popular music. The 2026 edition brings together profiles ranging from singer-songwriter to contemporary flamenco, including music linked to Andalusian traditions.
The Tourism and Culture delegate, Angie Moreno, highlighted that “reaching the fifth edition demonstrates the consolidation of a festival that keeps the memory of Pepe Suero alive and, at the same time, projects the values represented by his music into the present.” Moreno added that “the City Council wants to continue generating spaces for music that comes from our roots and is part of the cultural identity of Seville.”
Arturo Pareja Obregón, a Classic of Sevillian Song
Leading the lineup is the Sevillian Arturo Pareja Obregón, a singer, composer, and pianist, son of composer Manuel Pareja Obregón. He made his recording debut in 1985 with the album Sevilla, whose title track became an unofficial anthem of the city. Throughout his career, he has composed songs for artists such as Alejandro Sanz, Rocío Jurado, and Pasión Vega, and his style combines piano, singer-songwriter music, and traditional Andalusian sounds.
Alongside him, Fraskito brings his experience in contemporary flamenco. With over two decades of experience, he has collaborated with Enrique Morente, Remedios Amaya, and Jorge Pardo, among others. His latest work, Gratitud (2026), fuses flamenco with Valencian popular music and contemporary languages. He has also set poems by Antonio Machado and Miguel Hernández to music.
Javielito de la Cava and Bella de Sousa Complete the Evening
From Triana comes Javielito de la Cava, a multidisciplinary artist who is a singer, flamenco guitarist, flautist, and drummer for the Hermandad del Rocío de Triana. He is responsible for projects such as Triana sings to Christmas, and his work is deeply connected to the traditions of the neighbourhood, flamenco, and rociera music.
Closing the lineup is Bella de Sousa, a singer-songwriter from Isla Cristina (Huelva) who defines her style as “island pop,” a blend of flamenco and carnival roots with pop sounds. Since her debut in 2020, she has released songs like Tal vez and La ilusión, and her proposal resonates with new generations looking to update popular Andalusian music.
The diversity of these four profiles shapes an edition that explores different ways of interpreting popular music: from singer-songwriter and Sevillian tradition to contemporary flamenco and the latest fusions. With this fifth edition, the festival asserts music as part of the memory and cultural identity of Seville, while fostering encounters between artists and generations.
The concert is free entry until capacity is reached, so it is recommended to arrive early to secure a spot in the Plaza Poeta Miguel Hernández.
