The Local Security Board of Los Palacios and Villafranca has coordinated a special operation for the Maribáñez fairs and the municipality, as well as for the historical document exhibition in November. The mayor, Juan Manuel Valle, and the Government subdelegate in Seville, Francisco Toscano, have highlighted the police reinforcement following the summer crime spike.
The Local Security Board of Los Palacios and Villafranca met this month in the Town Hall Meeting Room to analyse the situation of public safety and prepare for the upcoming events. The meeting confirmed an increase in police presence in the municipality, with seven arrests and the recovery of nine vehicles in recent weeks, as reported by the Government subdelegate in Seville, Francisco Toscano.
The mayor, Juan Manuel Valle, presided over the meeting, which also included the first deputy mayor, Carmen María Molina; the delegate for Public Safety, José Manuel Triguero; the delegate for Festivities, Juan Manuel Bernal; and representatives from the Guardia Civil, National Police, and Local Police.
The increase in criminal incidents during August was a major topic of discussion. Valle emphasised that the presence of Local Police and Guardia Civil has been reinforced over the past month and assured that this vigilance will continue.
“As Administrations, we have done what is expected by the public, which is to respond with the available resources. The presence of Local Police and Guardia Civil has been reinforced for a month, and this will continue,” stated Juan Manuel Valle.
For his part, Toscano acknowledged that, although the crime rate in Los Palacios and Villafranca remains below the provincial, Andalusian, and national averages, the specific increase in summer crimes has caused concern among residents. The subdelegate confirmed the reinforcement of Guardia Civil resources for prevention and investigation and reminded that the municipality's Main Post maintains citizen attention and patrols 24 hours a day, with support from specialised units.
“As Administrations, we must respond to the concerns of the public,” affirmed Francisco Toscano.
The mayor insisted that safety is a priority for the Town Hall and defended the daily work of the security forces, even if it is not always visible to residents.
“We are continuously monitoring and acting in favour of public safety. Sometimes the public does not see the presence of the security forces, but that does not mean we do not care about and occupy ourselves with this task as a fundamental one,” explained Juan Manuel Valle.
Regarding the arrangements for the fairs, the Board has planned a specific operation for the Maribáñez Fair, already underway, and a larger one for the Los Palacios and Villafranca Fair, which will gather thousands of people. For the latter, the self-protection plan has been reviewed, and the actions of the Local Police, Guardia Civil, National Police, and health services have been coordinated, with special attention to the days of highest attendance and movements.
The operation will also include traffic safety controls on interurban roads and food safety, with the collaboration of specialised units and veterinary services.
Another issue addressed was the exhibition of historical documents scheduled for November. The exhibition, which will take place from 18 to 22 November, will showcase documentation transferred from the Historical Archive of the Nobility of Toledo, including town charters and the manuscript of the founding document from 1373. The uniqueness of these pieces has led to the design of special security measures during their transfer, arrival, custody, and exhibition.
The mayor thanked the collaboration of the Government Subdelegation and the Security Forces and highlighted that coordination between administrations is essential to ensure both public safety and the smooth running of major events in the municipality. Toscano valued the institutional collaboration and confirmed that the Government of Spain will participate in the special operation accompanying the exhibition.
