The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has activated alerts this Sunday due to a monumental traffic jam on the AP-4, the motorway connecting Seville with Cádiz. Up to 26 kilometres of queues have been recorded between kilometres 30 and 56, near Los Palacios and Villafranca and Las Cabezas de San Juan, during the return operation for those who spent the weekend on the beaches of Cádiz.
The Mass Return to Not Miss the Final
The cause of this traffic chaos is clear: the World Cup final facing Spain and Argentina at 21:00 hours. Thousands of Andalusians who were on getaway or holiday have begun their return home to not miss the decisive match. The DGT has confirmed that the delays started in the mid-afternoon and have intensified as the match time approaches.
On the A-49, near Bollullos Par del Condado (Huelva), five kilometres of delays have also been recorded heading towards Seville. The Bellavista variant (A-4) adds another six kilometres of queues near Dos Hermanas, further complicating entry into the capital of Seville.
DGT Recommendations for Drivers
In light of this situation, the DGT recommends exercising extreme caution and allowing extra time for travel. The agency advises, if possible, to delay departure until after 21:00 hours, when the flow of vehicles may decrease. It also reminds the importance of maintaining a safe distance and avoiding distractions while driving.
For those already on the road, the DGT suggests checking real-time traffic conditions through its website or social media, and considering alternative routes such as the N-IV or A-392 to avoid the most congested sections.
A Nerve-Racking Sunday for Sevilla Fans
Sevilla fans who opted for the beach this weekend are facing a long return home. Many fear missing the start of the match, although they trust they will arrive on time thanks to the special measures from the DGT. Meanwhile, in the province of Cádiz, delays are also being recorded, with two kilometres of queues in the Tres Caminos area, heading towards San Fernando. The situation is particularly complicated around Seville, where several roads converge with high traffic density.
The World Cup final promises to be a sports spectacle, but first, fans must overcome the road test. The DGT continues to issue alerts and expects the situation to normalise throughout the night, once the match has started.
