Next Friday, August 14, the La Estación Civic Centre in Guillena will host a new blood donation event, organised by the Regional Centre for Blood Transfusions (CRTS) in collaboration with the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Granada and the Town Hall of Guillena. The collection will take place from 17:00 to 21:00, and blood from all blood groups is needed.
The requirements to donate are the usual ones: be of legal age, weigh more than 50 kilos, be in good health, and not attend on an empty stomach. The CRTS reminds that on the day of donation, no sports should be practised.
A minimum interval of two months must be respected between donations. Men can donate blood four times a year, while women can do so three times. Before donating, a doctor will examine the donor to determine if they can proceed, including a small blood test to rule out anaemia.
A donation takes about 15 minutes, a time that can save a life. All materials used are sterile and for single use. After donation, blood is replenished with food and liquids, which will be available to the donor at the donation site.
Blood is a vital medicine that cannot be manufactured or purchased, so citizen participation is key. For more information, interested parties can consult the CRTS website (www.crtssevilla.org) or the 'Dona Sangre Andalucía' app, which is free and accessible for all types of mobile phones. There is also a link on the Andalusian Health Service website with all the information about donation in Andalusia.
