The Dos Hermanas Town Hall has completed the conservation and maintenance work on the Cruz de Montequinto, a unique element of the neighbourhood. The intervention, carried out by sculptor Antonio Luis Troya Román, has respected the criteria of minimal intervention.
The Dos Hermanas Town Hall has declared the conservation and maintenance work on the Cruz de Montequinto to be complete, an action aimed at recovering the image of this heritage element and ensuring its conservation in the medium and long term. The intervention was led by the Nazareno sculptor Antonio Luis Troya Román.
The work, framed within the municipal programme for the maintenance, conservation, and enhancement of the architectural and cultural heritage of Dos Hermanas, began with a detailed study of the conservation status of the cross. This analysis allowed for the detection of possible cracks, deposits, remnants of paint, accumulated dirt, and biological deterioration agents, as well as conducting preliminary tests to determine the most suitable cleaning procedures.
Subsequently, a superficial cleaning was carried out using manual and controlled methods, removing dust, loose particles, and dirt. Biological organisms and more adhered deposits were also specifically treated, while avoiding any alteration or erosion of the original stone at all times.
As a final phase, a breathable protective treatment was applied to reduce water absorption and improve protection against atmospheric agents and pollution, which helps to prolong the durability of the restoration. The entire process was carried out using products and materials compatible with the stone support, aiming to preserve the historical, material, and formal values of the cross.
This action adds to other similar interventions carried out in recent years on heritage elements in the municipality, such as the Torre del Mirador de La Almona, the monument to the Virgen de Valme in Plaza Menéndez y Pelayo, the Torre del Olivar on Calle Real Utrera, the monument of the horseman and the flamenco dancer on Glorieta Comunidad Autónoma de Andalucía (Venta Las Palmas), the monument to the olive pickers on Avenida José Luis Prats, the monument to Fraternity in Plaza de la Constitución, the Arab pavilion and the Chinese pagoda in Parque de La Alquería, as well as the monumental fountain in Plaza de la Constitución.
With the completion of this intervention, the Town Hall continues to advance in the conservation and enhancement of the unique elements that are part of the heritage, history, and identity of the various neighbourhoods of Dos Hermanas.
