The Sevillian municipality of Dos Hermanas has begun the 2026/2027 school year with around 13,000 students in Infant and Primary education, to which an additional 10,000 from Secondary, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training will join on September 15. The City Council has taken advantage of the summer to improve public schools.
The 2026/2027 school year has kicked off in Dos Hermanas with enrolment figures that remain in line with last year. Approximately 13,000 boys and girls in Infant and Primary education have returned to the classrooms, of which around 1,150 are three-year-old students starting school for the first time.
The incorporation of the remaining students will be staggered. On September 15, around 10,000 students from Compulsory Secondary Education, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training will return to class. On the same day, the two adult education centres, CEPER Bujalmoro and CEPER El Palmarillo, as well as the Elementary Conservatory of Music, will also resume their activities. The calendar will conclude on September 21 with the start of classes at the Official School of Languages.
The mayor of Dos Hermanas, Francisco Rodríguez, visited this morning the CEIP Rafael Alberti, where nearly 500 students have resumed classes. During his tour, the mayor expressed his gratitude to the educational community and wished the students a good school year, especially the more than one thousand three-year-olds who are joining for the first time.
"My best wishes this school year for the students, especially for the more than one thousand girls and boys of 3 years who are joining for the first time, to their families and the entire educational community," stated Francisco Rodríguez.
The mayor also highlighted the municipal commitment to education and explained that the school holidays have been used to intensify maintenance work in public schools.
"We have taken advantage of the school holidays to intensify maintenance, adaptation and improvement work on educational facilities," the mayor emphasized.
Among the main interventions carried out during the summer are the complete painting of the schools 19 de Abril and Las Portadas, as well as the habilitation and adaptation of interior spaces in CEIP Federico García Lorca. The restrooms in the CEIPs Los Montecillos, Fernán Caballero and Poetas Andaluces have also been remodeled and improved.
Other actions have included painting and conditioning work at the CEIPs Huerta de la Princesa, Juan Ramón Jiménez and M. Dolores Velasco, as well as improvements to the sports courts of CEIP Olivar de Quintos and CPR Adriano. In terms of waterproofing, new asphalt fabrics have been installed on the roof of CEIP Carlos I.
The playgrounds for Infant education at the CEIPs El Palmarillo, Juan Ramón Jiménez and Carlos I have also been improved, as well as the outdoor pavements of the CEIPs Rafael Alberti, Ana María Matute, Consolación and Federico García Lorca. Additionally, the staircase of CEIP Consolación has been remodeled and the enclosure of CEIP Valme has been replaced, among other interventions.
The City Council has also continued to expand shaded areas and awnings in various centres to provide more comfortable and protected spaces. These summer works are in addition to the maintenance work carried out throughout the school year.
Dos Hermanas has a wide educational network composed of 32 public schools for Infant and Primary education, 10 private schools for Infant, Primary and Secondary education, and 13 public institutes for Compulsory Secondary Education, of which nine also offer Baccalaureate. They are joined by the Integrated Centre for Vocational Training El Arenal, the two adult education centres, the Official School of Languages and the Elementary Conservatory of Music.
With the return to the classrooms, families in Dos Hermanas face the return to the school routine, and municipal education services remain open for inquiries about enrolment and assistance. The next milestone will be the incorporation of Secondary, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training students on September 15.
