The Tourism Delegation of Mairena del Alcor has presented an agenda that includes a route along the Cornisa de los Alcores, the premiere of a documentary about Jorge Bonsor, and the installation of a giant bench with views of La Vega. Activities begin on 19 September.
The Tourism Delegation of the Mairena del Alcor City Council, led by councillor Miriam Domínguez, has organised a programme of activities to commemorate World Tourism Day, celebrated every 27 September. The proposal combines routes, workshops, an audiovisual premiere, and the incorporation of new technological and photographic resources in the municipality.
The calendar kicks off on 19 September at 9:00 AM with a hiking route along the Cornisa de los Alcores. Attendees will traverse the escarpment, the Vía Verde, and the layout of the old railway line, with explanations about the natural and historical heritage of the area.
On 23 September, the Teatro Calixto Sánchez will host the premiere of a documentary about Jorge Bonsor, the archaeologist and painter who resided in the Castle of Mairena del Alcor. Admission will be free until capacity is reached, and the film will recreate his life and times in the fortress through characters and historical passages.
For children, a ceramics workshop has been scheduled where they can reproduce with clay some of the most representative pieces from the Jorge Bonsor Museum.
On 27 September, the central day of the celebration, there will be open doors in the morning at the Castle and the Bonsor Museum, with a guided tour by the municipal archaeologist. In the afternoon, the urban route “Una Legua Cultural”, lasting about three hours, will be launched, focusing on the sculptural heritage of the locality.
During this tour, a technological novelty will be presented: the installation of tiles with QR codes at the foot of the main sculptures. Residents and visitors will be able to scan them with their mobile phones to obtain detailed information about each work.
The programme is completed with a tourism photography competition divided into two age categories, Children (up to 18 years) and Adults (18 years and older), and three themes: Heritage, Nature, and Hidden Corners. Images can be submitted on 17 and 18 September, and the results will be announced on 26 September.
The first-place winner in each category will receive an institutional trophy, have their photograph displayed at the Villa del Conocimiento y las Artes, and their image may be used on the municipal website. Second and third place winners will receive a diploma and will also have their works exhibited.
As a closing to the month, the councillor announced the upcoming installation of a giant bench at a panoramic viewpoint, designed as a photo point with views towards La Vega. The initiative aims to attract visitors and offer a new attraction for residents.
“We want Tourism Month to serve for the people of Mairena and those who visit us to discover everything the municipality offers beyond its most well-known heritage,” stated councillor Miriam Domínguez during the presentation.
Activities are free, although some require prior registration or have limited capacity, so the City Council recommends checking official channels to confirm schedules and availability.
