The Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council and the General Council of Brotherhoods and Cofradías are starting this Friday the second edition of the preventive conservation cycle, which kicks off with a conference on the restoration of the San Juan Bosco altarpiece and an open day on Saturday.
The Salesian Chapel of Alcalá de Guadaíra will host this Friday 25th September at 20:00 hours the conference that opens the II Preventive Conservation Cycle in the Heritage of the Brotherhoods, organised by the Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council and the General Council of Brotherhoods and Cofradías of the locality.
The session will be dedicated to the restoration process of the San Juan Bosco altarpiece, an intervention that will be carried out by a team of restorers formed by Alejandro Redondo, Victoria Fernández, and José Ángel del Valle, along with historian Enrique Ruiz.
The following day, Saturday 26th September, the same technical team will be present at an open day that will take place from 10:00 to 12:00 hours, an opportunity for local residents to closely see the results of the work carried out on this artistic ensemble.
The programme will continue in the coming months with new events dedicated to other pieces of Alcalá's religious heritage. Among them are the restoration of the altar base of the Virgin of the Eagle and interventions on the paintings of the Christ of Burgos and the Christ of the Forsaken.
Works carried out on the image of Mary Magdalene, a piece by Manuel Pineda Calderón; the float of San Juan Evangelista de Jesús Nazareno; and various elements of the altarpiece of the Immaculate Conception of the parish of Santiago will also be revealed.
The delegate for Culture, Heritage and Museum, Christopher Rivas, has stated that this cycle continues the municipal grants aimed at the restoration of movable heritage goods of brotherhoods, entities, or individuals.
"This initiative is a continuation of the municipal grants for the restoration of movable heritage goods of brotherhoods, entities, or individuals that the City Council initiated," Rivas has stated.
The councillor added that, after the interventions, these works "deserved to be enjoyed by the general population and any interested parties, institutions or brotherhoods from other areas as significant works of art."
"We have a significant shared commitment between institutions and brotherhoods to care for, protect, and share the artistic values of religious heritage as symbols of our identity, and this leads us to explain and highlight how this wealth is preserved to avoid major restorations," the delegate continued.
With this second edition, the City Council and the Brotherhood Council aim to bring citizens closer to the technical criteria that guide the conservation of these goods, so that the people of Alcalá can understand how the pieces are protected before they require more extensive interventions.
