The pilgrimage in honour of the patron saint will depart on Sunday, September 13 at 9:45 from the Parish of Inmaculada and will gather carts and pilgrims until reaching the Pinares de la Boticaria. The XXXIV Pregón de San Mateo will kick off the events this Friday at the Gutiérrez de Alba theatre.
Alcalá de Guadaíra is in the final days of preparations for the Romería in honour of its patron, San Mateo, which will take place this Sunday September 13. The mayor, Ana Isabel Jiménez, and the delegate for Major Festivals, Rocío Bastida, have overseen the ornamental work on the carts that will travel through the streets of the municipality.
The mayor has congratulated the Hermandad de San Mateo and its brotherhood leader, Paco Núñez, for their efforts to maintain the tradition, which gains more participants each year. The event will begin after the Pilgrims' Mass, scheduled for 8:30 at the Parish of Inmaculada.
Before this, on Friday September 11 at 21:00, the Gutiérrez de Alba theatre will host the XXXIV Pregón de San Mateo, presented by Antonio María Lebreros Ramírez and introduced by Miguel Caiceo García. These events precede the feast day of the patron saint on September 21, when the image will be paraded from the Inmaculada Concepción.
The Major Festivals Delegation has coordinated the supervision of the paths and the pilgrimage field with the Local Police, Firefighters, the Environmental technician, Aira, Civil Protection, and the brotherhood to ensure the organisation of the route.
The outbound itinerary will depart at 9:45 from the Parish of Inmaculada and will pass through Ramón J. Sénder street, Avenida de la Constitución, Atilano de Acevedo, Barrio Obrero, Plaza de San Mateo, Paraíso, La Plata, Alcalá y Orti, Herrero, the Town Hall, Plaza del Duque, Puente Carlos III, Avenida de Portugal, the old road of Camping Oromana, Cortijo Olivera, Maestre, and the road to Oromana until reaching the Pinares de la Boticaria, where arrival is expected at 14:15.
The gathering in the pines will last until 18:30, when the return journey will begin via Avenida de Portugal, Puente Carlos III, Plaza del Perejil, Plaza del Duque, Herrero, Orellana, Duquesa de Talavera, Silos, and Avenida de la Constitución, with arrival back at the Parish of Inmaculada at 22:15.
Residents who wish to follow the pilgrimage will have a wide urban route before heading to the countryside, so it is recommended to anticipate traffic disruptions in the streets of the centre and around Puente Carlos III during the morning of Sunday.
