The competition will take place from October 17 to 25 with two categories: easel painting and sketchbooks. Registration is free and will be formalised on the first day at the City Museum.
The pictorial tradition of landscape returns to Alcalá de Guadaíra with the twenty-third edition of the Outdoor Painting Competition 'Emilio Sánchez Perrier', which will be held between October 17 and 25. The competition maintains its aim of reviving natural painting that gave international fame to the area around the Guadaíra River thanks to the authors of the so-called School of Alcalá.
The municipal delegate for Culture, Heritage and Museums, Christopher Rivas, presented the call and highlighted that it serves as a tool for promoting the historical and natural heritage of the city, as well as supporting emerging local or regional artists. In his opinion, the long history of the competition can add value to the participants' curriculum.

All artists over the age of 18 who wish to participate can do so, both from Alcalá and outside. The sole theme will be the natural and monumental heritage of the locality, and the specific working location will be specified at the start of the competition. It is not mandatory to work every day: each participant will choose their schedules and days, except for the mandatory moments of start and submission.
The competition includes two independent or simultaneous categories. In easel painting, traditional manual techniques such as oil, acrylic, watercolour or mixed techniques are accepted; the support is of free choice, to be provided by each contestant, and must have a maximum length of 100 centimetres on its longest side and a minimum of 30 centimetres on the shortest. In sketchbooks, the organisation provides an A5 notebook, which each participant must submit with at least ten pages of graphic notes on the theme.
Registration and stamping of supports will take place on October 17, from 10:00 to 11:00 hours, at the City Museum, located at Juez Pérez Díaz, s/n. The submission of works will take place on October 25, from 12:00 to 13:30 hours, at the Casa de la Cultura, located at General Prim, 2. Each artist may submit one work in easel painting and one sketchbook.
The prizes include a first prize of €900 and a commemorative gift, a second prize of €600 and a gift, and a single prize of €300 for sketchbooks. The two winning easel works will become the property of the Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council and will be incorporated into the collections of the city museum.

Rivas invited artists to participate in this new edition and encouraged locals and visitors to come and enjoy the works and the artistic perspective that, once again, will help to discover and appreciate the landscape of Alcalá de Guadaíra.
