The Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council and Peña Flamenca La Soleá have signed a collaboration agreement endowed with 12,000 euros to maintain the activities of the entity and celebrate the XXXIII edition of the National Flamenco Singing Competition.
The mayor of Alcalá de Guadaíra, Ana Isabel Jiménez, and the president of Peña Flamenca La Soleá, Antonio Durán, have signed a collaboration agreement whereby the City Council contributes 12,000 euros to the entity for the development of its annual programming and, in particular, for the organization of the XXXIII edition of the National Flamenco Singing Competition.
The agreement aims to preserve flamenco as cultural heritage and bring this artistic expression closer to the residents of the municipality. The municipal contribution will allow the peña to maintain its activity throughout the year and cover the costs of the competition, which each edition brings together singers from various backgrounds.
The mayor has highlighted the work of the peña and framed the agreement within the commitment of the City Council to local traditions and artists. In her speech, she recalled that flamenco is recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
“Without a doubt, it is a great attraction for high-quality singers not only from Andalusia but from other communities in Spain, who bring a high level to each edition, while also helping to maintain and promote local enthusiasm.”
Also present at the signing event was the municipal delegate for Culture, Christopher Rivas, who defended support for entities that keep alive one of the hallmarks of local culture.
“Peña Flamenca La Soleá has an impeccable track record in favor of flamenco art, which, as a hallmark of identity, endures in the present of our city and projects into the future.”
The text of the agreement also includes the commitment of both parties to collaborate closely. The peña will support public events and shows that it organizes, while the City Council will promote municipal activities related to flamenco among the entity's members.
The president of Peña Flamenca La Soleá has valued the agreement as a way to continue spreading flamenco and ensure its continuity among new generations.
“This agreement continues to open new opportunities for us to spread our passion for flamenco and contribute to its continuity among new generations.”
From the City Council, they highlight that the work of the peña's leaders has made it a reference space for enthusiasts from many places in Spain. The agreement will be valid during the current financial year, and the municipal contribution will be allocated both to the ordinary functioning of the entity and to the celebration of the national competition.
