The Town Hall of Lebrija reminds of the preventive measures ahead of the intense heat episode expected in the coming days, with highs exceeding 38 degrees.

The Town Hall of Lebrija, through its Health Delegation, has issued a reminder of preventive measures in light of the intense and persistent heat episode that, according to weather forecasts, will affect a large part of Andalusia in the coming days. Maximum temperatures are expected to exceed 38 degrees on several days this week and next, with nights also rising and increasing the feeling of muggy heat.

The council emphasizes that heat particularly affects the most vulnerable groups: babies, young children, the elderly, chronic patients, and those who work or exercise outdoors. For them, and for the rest of the population, it is recommended to drink water frequently even if not thirsty, to offer liquids regularly to children and the elderly, and to avoid excessive consumption of alcohol, sugary drinks, or those high in caffeine. It is also advised to opt for light and fresh meals, such as fruits, vegetables, salads, or cold soups.

Avoid the sun during peak hours

Direct exposure to the sun should be avoided between 12:00 and 17:00, and intense physical activity is not recommended during these hours. For those who must go out, the Town Hall advises wearing light, loose-fitting clothing in light colours, protecting the head with a hat or cap, using approved sunglasses, and applying sunscreen suitable for skin type, reapplying it periodically. Children under three years old should not be exposed to the sun, and it is advised against falling asleep in the sun.

In indoor spaces, it is recommended to keep blinds, awnings, and curtains closed during peak sunlight hours, ventilate the home at night and early in the morning, and use fans or air conditioning when possible. It is also suggested to avoid using appliances that generate heat during the peak hours of the day.

In case of symptoms such as intense headache, dizziness, confusion, hot and dry skin, rapid pulse, or loss of consciousness, immediately call 112. While waiting for help, the person should be moved to a cool and shaded place, water or damp cloths should be applied to the body, and if they are conscious, offer them water in small sips.

The Lebrija Town Council has prepared an informative leaflet titled “Take care of your health, protect yourself from the heat”, which can be consulted and downloaded from the municipal website www.lebrija.es, with recommendations to safely face these episodes of high temperatures.
