CD Cabecense triumphed over CD Utrera in the penalty shootout after drawing 2-2 in a thrilling match. The event, held at the Municipal Stadium Carlos Marchena, celebrated its golden anniversary with a tribute to Juan López Alonso 'Santera'.
The Club Deportivo Cabecense lifted the San Juan Trophy on Thursday night in its 50th edition, a title that came after a nail-biting penalty shootout against CD Utrera. The match, played at the Municipal Stadium Carlos Marchena, ended in a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes of regulation time.
The team, managed by Álvaro Infante, had to come from behind twice to equalise the score. The excitement carried over to the penalty shootout, where the rojinegros managed to prevail over the Utrera side and lifted the trophy on a night that will be remembered for the tournament's 50th anniversary.
Before the initial whistle, the club and the Las Cabezas de San Juan Town Hall paid tribute to Juan López Alonso, 'Santera', regarded as one of the best footballers the town has produced. The ceremony, simple yet filled with emotion, recognised his contribution to the history of football in Cabeza.
The president of Cabecense, Diego Román, highlighted the importance of figures like Juan López, recalling that it was people like him who made it possible for the club to become known and respected. The recognition extended to an entire generation of footballers, directors, and fans who gave their all for football in Las Cabezas during times of scarce resources, but abundant passion and commitment.
The match kicked off at 20:30 hours with a great atmosphere in the stands. Among the attendees were the mayor, Pepe Solano, and the Sports delegate, Pepe Quiñones, who cheered on the home team and shared the evening with the fans. Both, along with president Diego Román, were responsible for presenting the trophy to the champion team.
Winning the San Juan Trophy serves as a precursor to the start of the league competition for Cabecense. The rojinegro team will begin the season facing Lebrijana, a match that has become a tradition during the Feria week.
The Town Hall of Las Cabezas de San Juan conveyed their congratulations to Cabecense for winning this historic trophy and also to CD Utrera for the great match played. The Utrera team includes the cabeceño footballer Manu Alonso, as well as several players with a past at Cabecense.
The Town Hall encourages all residents of Las Cabezas de San Juan to continue supporting the rojinegro team throughout the season.
