Écija City Council has formalised the contract to renovate Mendoza Street, with a budget of €431,340. The works, which will start in mid-August, will include trees and accessibility improvements.
Écija City Council has awarded the comprehensive renovation of Mendoza Street, one of the busiest streets in the centre, to the company Emo Ecilimp. The contract, financed through the Más Sevilla plan of the Provincial Council, amounts to €431,340 and includes the complete renewal of the pavement and service networks.
The work will begin around August 15 and is expected to take about four and a half months, with completion anticipated in December. The intervention has been organised into two phases to adapt to the morphology of the street.
The first section, between La Victoria Street and Albertos Street, will feature a differentiated platform and two rows of trees on either side, as well as resting benches. The second section, from Albertos to Puerta Osuna, being narrower, will be executed on a single platform and will have a single row of trees.
The Mayor of Écija, Silvia Heredia, has valued the start of a “long-awaited” action, as the pavement of Mendoza Street “was very deteriorated due to constant traffic.” Heredia highlighted the inclusion of trees, “responding to a very clear citizen demand,” and noted that the aim is to provide shaded areas and benches to facilitate the movement of those walking to the market or the Alcarrachela neighbourhood.
For his part, the Urban Planning delegate, Ángel Peña, thanked “the efforts of the technical teams in drafting the project” and the agility of the Contracting department in the bidding process, which will allow “these improvements to be executed in a timely manner.”
In both sections, parking spaces will be maintained and the basic infrastructures will be completely renewed: drinking water networks, sewage, and underground public lighting. The action harmonises the design of the street with the recent works carried out at the Church of La Victoria, as part of the municipal strategy to improve the urban environment.
During the months of construction, traffic in the area will experience partial closures and diversions, which the City Council will communicate. Neighbours and traders on Mendoza Street and nearby areas will be informed in advance about the phases and timelines of each section.
