The comprehensive repair works on the roofs of CEIP Miguel de Cervantes in Écija, with an investment of nearly €400,000 from the Junta de Andalucía, will be completed in time for students to start classes on September 10 at their school.
The CEIP Miguel de Cervantes in Écija is finalising the roof repair works, a project funded by the Junta de Andalucía with nearly €400,000, a figure higher than initially anticipated. Workers are currently conducting final tests to verify the proper functioning of the roofs before applying the final layer of cement and gravel.
The works, carried out by the Andalusian Public Agency for Education (APAE), which is under the Ministry of Education, include the comprehensive repair and waterproofing of the roof with asphalt and new protective layers, the repair of the cornices due to their poor condition, the repair, painting, and cleaning of classrooms affected by dampness and leaks, and the replacement of windows in common areas and some access doors to the courtyards.
These improvements are complemented by others funded by the City Council of Écija, such as the reinforcement of window lintels, costing approximately €15,000; the renewal of electronic devices, such as digital boards, printers, and projectors, for about €20,000; and actions from the Thermal Comfort programme, with an investment of €18,000 for air conditioning, shaded areas, and plantings. Additionally, the centre receives annual aid of around €5,000 for small improvements decided by the educational community.
The Education delegate of the City Council, Ana Carmona, explained that the Junta de Andalucía also plans to execute a bioclimatisation project valued at €425,000. Altogether, the investment from various public administrations in the school approaches one million euros.
“We have achieved, through the unity of teachers, parents, and our city council, that the Junta de Andalucía provides this significant amount of money that comes to our city of Écija,” noted the mayor, Silvia Heredia.
Heredia expressed her appreciation that students can start classes on September 10 with so many improvements in their facilities. It is one of the public centres in the city with the highest number of students.
The school director, Pastora Domínguez, expressed her satisfaction with having nearly completed the works, “considering the large-scale project that has been carried out during the summer period.” She thanked the contractor for meeting deadlines, as well as the support from local administration and the Junta de Andalucía.
“We are extremely grateful to the company, which has been able to complete it on time, to the local administration, to our mayor, to Ana Carmona, for their efforts to make this happen, and also, of course, to the Junta de Andalucía, which has provided all the necessary financial resources,” stated Domínguez.
The centre is already working on cleaning and moving furniture, with the help of City Council staff. The educational community is confident of welcoming students to their classrooms on the 10th, with the facilities renovated and ready for the new term.
