The Flamenco Festival of Gines celebrated its 25th edition on Friday, July 17, in the Molino courtyard, with over 500 people. The event honoured local artist Manuel de Gines and featured performances by Sandra Carrasco, Mayte Martín, and Antonio Moreno 'Polito'.
The Molino courtyard, in the Hacienda el Santo Ángel of Gines, was once again the epicentre of flamenco on Friday, July 17. More than 500 people gathered for the 25th edition of the Flamenco Festival of Gines, which returned to its birthplace to celebrate its Silver Anniversary. The evening, presented by Juan de Dios Sánchez, began with the screening of the audiovisual 'Return to the Origins', which explained the significance of this return to the emblematic space.
Tribute to Manuel de Gines, a local reference of singing
One of the most emotional moments of the night was the tribute to local artist Manuel de Gines. The Councillor for Culture, Virginia Montiel, spoke to highlight the singer's career and his connection to the municipality. After her words, an emotional Manuel de Gines took to the stage to thank for the recognition and receive a commemorative gift, eliciting unanimous applause from the audience.
The honouree, accompanied by David Caro and Los Mellis, delivered a performance that made clear why he is considered a reference for accompanying singing in contemporary flamenco. The attendees were captivated by his artistry in an intimate atmosphere full of duende.
Sandra Carrasco and Mayte Martín, two luxury voices
The night continued with a performance by Sandra Carrasco, who presented a preview of her upcoming album in Gines. Accompanied on guitar by David de Arahal, the artist enchanted with her freshness and unmistakable voice. After a short break, it was Mayte Martín's turn, who, with José Gálvez on guitar, dazzled with her prodigious and personal singing. Both performances were warmly applauded by an audience that filled the Molino courtyard.
Grand finale with Antonio Moreno 'Polito'
The grand finale was delivered by dancer Antonio Moreno 'Polito' and his flamenco group, featuring Álvaro Moreno, El Galli de Morón, Jony Reyes, and Lolo. His powerful presence on stage captivated those present, who called for an encore. Polito did not hesitate to repeat, this time accompanied by his daughter, in a gesture that moved the audience.
The festival, organised by the Culture delegation of the Gines City Council, the Andalusian Agency for Cultural Institutions of the Junta de Andalucía, and the Provincial Council of Seville, demonstrated that flamenco is more alive than ever in the locality. For the residents of Gines, this anniversary edition has been a source of pride and an opportunity to enjoy great flamenco figures in a unique setting. The next event will be in 2026, when the festival turns 26, and who knows, it may surprise again with new proposals.
