The Gines Town Hall is organising an event to observe the partial solar eclipse on Wednesday, August 12, at the Nuevo San José Municipal Stadium. Certified glasses with ISO 12312-2 will be distributed, although the units will be limited.
Next Wednesday, August 12, the sky over Gines will offer an unusual spectacle: a partial solar eclipse that will darken nearly 95% of the star. To experience it safely, the Gines Town Hall has organised an activity at the Nuevo San José Municipal Stadium, where certified glasses will be distributed starting at 19:15.
The glasses that will be handed out have ISO 12312-2 certification and the CE marking, the only protection recommended by experts for looking directly at the Sun. The number of units is limited, so it is advisable to arrive early to secure a pair.
The eclipse will begin to be visible in the town at 19:50, but the moment of maximum obscuration will occur at 20:30, when the Sun will be covered by 95%, according to calculations from the National Astronomical Observatory.
Risks and Precautions
The council reminds that looking directly at the Sun without protection can cause serious eye injuries, even during an eclipse. Therefore, they insist that conventional sunglasses are not sufficient and that telescopes or binoculars should not be used without an appropriate filter placed in front of the lens.
Children, the Most Vulnerable Group
Special attention should be given to the little ones. The Town Hall asks families to supervise children during the entire observation, as they may not be aware of the danger of looking directly at the Sun.
The activity at the Nuevo San José Municipal Stadium will begin at 19:15 with the distribution of glasses. Entry is free and access will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
