The Mairena del Alcor Town Hall has reported the theft of six picnic tables on the Greenway, with a replacement cost exceeding €3,000.
The Mairena del Alcor Town Hall has reported the theft of six complete picnic tables installed in the rest area of the Greenway, near the Mill, at the access road to La Vega. The furniture, placed just a year ago, was a regular meeting point for athletes, young people, and hikers from the locality and neighbouring municipalities.
The Councillor for the Environment, Ana Guillén, explained that the theft was discovered during routine cleaning and maintenance work. Only the bins, individual benches, and the metal supports for anchoring remain, which indicates that the theft was premeditated.
“They were not just resting on the surface; specific tools were required to unanchor them and transport vehicles to move six complete sets of tables and benches,” Guillén pointed out. The structure was firmly fixed to the ground, so the perpetrators needed material means to take all the furniture.
The initial assessment estimates the cost of acquiring the furniture at a minimum of €3,000, to which will be added the costs of labour, auxiliary machinery, cranes, and assembly to restore the area. This expense falls on the municipal coffers, directly affecting the budget of all residents of Mairena del Alcor.
The Local Police have already opened an investigation and are preparing a technical report with images taken at the site. Additionally, they are analysing footage from the surveillance cameras installed at the accesses to the Greenway to identify those responsible.
The Town Council has lamented this attack on public heritage and municipal equipment and has requested citizen cooperation to clarify the events. Any information can be sent to the Local Police.
