The Gines Town Hall finances €40,000 for the adaptation of the SUM and other facilities at CEIP Nuestra Señora de Belén to create a 57 m² dining room with its own kitchen.
The works for the new dining room at CEIP Nuestra Señora de Belén in Gines are progressing as planned, after the Town Hall took on the project entirely due to the lack of response from the Junta de Andalucía. The project, which exceeds €40,000 plus VAT, is financed from the municipal Treasury Surplus.
The new space, measuring 57 square meters, is being constructed by adapting the Multiple Use Room (SUM) of the centre, alongside the old facilities of the AMPA and the services, which will be integrated into the new dining area. It will feature its own kitchen, adapted restrooms, an independent entrance for catering, and direct access from the school for students, so that they do not have to go outside on rainy days.
According to the Town Hall, the entire area will be equipped with new flooring and tiling in accordance with health regulations, as well as climate control systems and renewed plumbing and electrical installations. The work, which is progressing well, also includes painting the facilities and finishing all details.
A long-standing demand from the educational community
The project responds to a long-standing request from families, the AMPA, and the school itself, who have faced deficiencies in the previous dining room. The Town Hall exhausted all avenues with the Delegation and the Ministry of Education of the Junta de Andalucía before deciding to take on the project with its own funds.
“It has had to be the most local body that has had to take on and address this need after exhausting all resources and after numerous failed attempts with the competent administrations for this, such as the Junta de Andalucía,” stated the mayor, Romualdo Garrido.
The mayor, who visited the works alongside the delegates of Education and Urbanism, David Ostos and Ramón Carlos Peralías, thanked “the enormous patience, effort, and willingness shown by the AMPA and the families using the service to make this project a reality.”
The expectation is that the new dining room will start operating at the beginning of the next school year 2026-2027. Additionally, as part of the usual improvements that the Town Hall makes in schools, the sewage network in the parking area adjacent to the dining room will be renewed to avoid blockages and puddles.
