The Sevillian municipality of La Rinconada has unveiled the image that will accompany its bid to be European City of Sport 2028, a distinction awarded by ACES Europe that has already been achieved by other Andalusian towns.
The mayor of La Rinconada, Javier Fernández, and the Sports delegate, Francisco José Rodríguez, have presented the logo for the municipality's bid for European City of Sport 2028. The image will preside over all events and actions organised to promote this aspiration before ACES Europe, the body responsible for granting this distinction.
The design, as explained by the City Council, stems from a question: how can the unity of citizens be visualised? The answer is two shapes that meet and complement each other. The blue shape and the red shape do not overlap, but together they create something that neither could be alone. The colours refer to the coat of arms of La Rinconada, which has been present for generations, and the composition aims to convey movement and balance, dynamism without aggression, and strength without rigidity. Two shapes that rise and look upwards, alluding to the projection and celebration of a city that has secured its place in Europe.
The Sports delegate has pointed out that this is an image they want to associate with all promotional activities for the bid and to become a distinctive symbol of La Rinconada in the sports field. The bid aims to give visibility to the work developed over the years by clubs, athletes, entities, technical staff, volunteers, and administrations. This joint effort has allowed for the consolidation of a wide network of facilities, a team of qualified coaches and instructors, an intense sporting activity throughout the year, and a model based on equal opportunities, inclusion, and sports practice for all ages.
The mayor emphasised that the bid seeks to involve all citizens in a common project that values the journey taken and looks to the future. Fernández insisted that sport is a philosophy of life and an non-negotiable policy that guarantees first-class facilities, professionals to guide citizens, and quality events to promote the municipality. His main pride, he stated, is that more than 50% of the population engages in sport regularly.
La Rinconada aspires to join the Andalusian cities that have already received this distinction, such as Córdoba (2014), Antequera (2018), or Granada (2021). Additionally, Málaga was recognised as European Capital of Sport in 2020, positioning Andalusia as one of the regions with the greatest presence in the network promoted by ACES Europe.
