Aqua Campiña has completed the preparation of the water supply and sewage networks of the fairground and La Alcarrachela. A total of 145 grates and 4,325 metres of pipes have been cleaned, removing 265 kilos of waste.
The company managing the Municipal Water Service of Écija, Aqua Campiña, has concluded preventive cleaning and inspection work on the water supply and sewage networks of the fairground and the neighbourhood of La Alcarrachela, ahead of the Real Feria de Écija. The aim is to ensure the proper functioning of services during the festive days.
The actions included the cleaning of 145 grates and inlets, 4,325 metres of sewage pipes, and 38 manholes, from which approximately 265 kilos of accumulated waste have been extracted. These works aim to prevent incidents and facilitate the evacuation of wastewater and rainwater, especially in light of possible rain during the fair.
The work has been carried out with a specialized sanitation truck equipped with high-pressure water propulsion and suction systems, a technology that allows for the removal of sediments, debris, and blockages inside the pipes. This ensures the proper collection and transport of water from toilets, sinks, and other facilities in the booths to the treatment station.
The delegate for Environment of the City Council of Écija, Carlos Onetti, supervised the work today alongside the manager of Aqua Campiña, José Mª Pérez. Onetti highlighted the importance of these tasks, which often go unnoticed as they take place underground.
“Preparing for the Real Feria not only involves setting up booths and facilities but also getting essential infrastructures ready that work invisibly. Often these actions go unnoticed because they occur underground, but they are crucial to prevent incidents and ensure we all enjoy the fair safely and normally,” Onetti stated.
For his part, the manager of Aqua Campiña reminded that the company will continue to provide service during the fair days and will have a team of on-call workers to address any breakdowns 24 hours.
In terms of supply, the company estimates that around 8.6 million litres of water will be consumed during the fair, an amount equivalent to more than three Olympic swimming pools. This consumption corresponds to the 28 booths set up at the venue, as well as kiosks and other services linked to the fair activities.
Aqua Campiña recommends responsible use of the sanitation facilities and avoiding throwing wipes, oils, food scraps, or other waste down the drains that could cause blockages during days of high usage intensity.
