The Andalusian Government has delivered the footbridge that connects the urbanisations El Campillo, El Rosal, and Los Claveles with the urban centre of Mairena del Alcor, a community demand that has lasted over two decades.
The Andalusian Government has completed the works on the footbridge that links the urbanisations El Campillo, El Rosal, and Los Claveles with the urban centre of Mairena del Alcor. The Minister of Development and Mobility, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, and the mayor of Mairena, Juan Manuel López, attended the reception of an infrastructure that has involved an investment of €1.14 million, co-financed with European Feder funds from the operational programme in Andalusia 2021-2027.
Muñoz-Atanet highlighted that the project is significant not only for the investment but also because it "solves a problem that has persisted for over two decades," when the construction of the Mairena del Alcor bypass left these urbanisations isolated, with residents lacking a safe pedestrian connection to an urban centre just five minutes away.
"It solves a problem that has persisted for over two decades," noted the minister.
The minister explained that the solution was made possible thanks to "active listening and collaboration between administrations," following the agreement signed in 2023 between the Town Hall and the Government. The works, which began at the end of 2025, consisted of a footbridge 200 metres long and between 2 and 2.5 metres wide, located at the intersection of the road from Mairena to Torreblanca (A-8026) with the bypass (A-398). Additionally, a cycle and pedestrian path of 600 metres has been constructed adjacent to the A-8026 between the kilometre points 11.480 and 12.120, from the access to the urbanisation El Rosal to the beginning of the footbridge.
The path, four metres wide with a differentiated space (1.5 metres for pedestrians and 2.5 metres for cyclists), is protected from the road by a safety barrier. With this infrastructure, residents of these urbanisations will be able to walk or cycle to the centre of Mairena del Alcor, whereas previously the only option was by car.
The mayor, Juan Manuel López, announced that his Town Hall will now begin work on the second phase of the project, which will link the completed footbridge with the urban core, directly connecting with the Prior neighbourhood. This municipal phase will complete the safe route for residents of the three urbanisations.
The reception event was also attended by the Government delegate of the Junta in Seville, Ricardo Sánchez; the General Director of Roads, Emilio Asensio; the Territorial Delegate for Development and Mobility in Seville, Teresa Ávila; and the councillors for Works and Urban Planning in Mairena del Alcor, Ana Guillén and Santiago Mauri, among other members of the Municipal Government.
