The Town Hall of La Algaba has appointed local resident Rocío Tejado Gutiérrez, a 33-year-old nurse, as the author of the poster for the 2026 Popular Festivals, which will be held in the municipality.
Rocío Tejado Gutiérrez, a 33-year-old nurse from La Algaba, will be responsible for capturing the essence of the 2026 Popular Festivals on canvas. The local Town Hall has entrusted this young local artist, who balances her healthcare work with a growing career in drawing and painting.
The choice of Tejado is not coincidental. The Council aims to highlight the talent that emerges from within the municipality itself. “We support artists from our town who, through their work, enrich the cultural life and project the identity of La Algaba,” municipal sources have stated.
The new poster artist discovered her passion for art from a very young age, although for years she prioritised her studies and her professional career as a nurse. However, she never completely abandoned that vocation, which she has recently taken up with renewed vigour. Her work includes portraits, commissioned paintings, wedding invitations, thesis covers, and various posters, employing techniques such as charcoal, watercolour, oil, and acrylic.
Among her most well-known works are the poster for the Romería of La Algaba 2024, created using pastel technique, and the one for the Carnival of La Algaba 2025, made in acrylic paint. Additionally, she has been selected to create the poster for Santa Marta 2026, consolidating a career that is beginning to be recognised both within and outside the municipality.
For Rocío, each project represents a learning opportunity, but the poster for the Popular Festivals holds special significance. “It allows her to combine her passion for art with the affection she feels for her roots, the traditions of La Algaba, and the people who keep them alive from generation to generation,” the Town Hall explains.
The Mayor of La Algaba, Diego Manuel Agüera Piñero, has personally congratulated the artist on the commission. “We are convinced that her work will reflect the essence of our festivals and the feelings of a whole town that proudly lives its traditions,” the mayor has emphasised.
The Popular Festivals of La Algaba are held every year around September, although the specific dates for 2026 have yet to be officially confirmed. The poster designed by Tejado will be the image that announces the events and presides over the days of celebration.
With this appointment, the Town Hall continues its line of supporting local creators, a commitment that has already borne fruit in events such as the Romería and the Carnival. The choice of a nurse who has managed to balance her profession with art also aims to serve as an example for other residents with artistic aspirations.
Rocío Tejado has expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her and has indicated that she is already working on the first sketches. “Each project is a challenge, but this one is very special because of what it means to me and my town,” the artist has stated.
The official presentation of the poster will take place in the coming weeks, once the work is completed. It will be then that the residents of La Algaba can discover how the author has interpreted the spirit of a festival that is a hallmark of the municipality.
