Swiss internationals Rubén Vargas and Djibril Sow will join Sevilla FC's pre-season training camp in the Netherlands, starting on July 30. Both return from their holidays after the World Cup, where Switzerland reached the quarter-finals.
Sevilla FC continues its preparations for the upcoming season. After playing three friendlies —winning against Juventud Torremolinos, losing to KS Cracovia, and winning on penalties against Córdoba— the team managed by Luis García Plaza is entering a new phase of pre-season. This Monday, they will face Ceuta behind closed doors at the Estadio Jesús Navas (21:00 hours), but the big news will come in the coming days with the addition of two key players: Rubén Vargas and Djibril Sow.
Both players, internationals with Switzerland, have enjoyed a few days of rest following their participation in the World Cup, where the Swiss team was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Argentina (3-1) in a match marked by the expulsion of Breel Embolo. Now, once the holidays are over, they will join the squad during the training camp that Sevilla will hold in the Netherlands.
The squad will travel next Thursday, July 30, and will remain in concentration until August 7 in Dutch territory. During this stage, the Seville team will play three friendly matches: on Friday, July 31, they will face NEC Nijmegen, on Sunday, August 2, they will play Utrecht, and finally, on August 8, they will meet Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena in Germany. The participation of Vargas and Sow in these matches will depend on their fitness after the break.
Indeed, Rubén Vargas's strong performance in the World Cup has increased his market value. According to Transfermarkt, the Swiss winger has risen from being valued at €12 million in June to the current €15 million. His performance at the World Cup has attracted interest from several clubs, including some from the Premier League, although the player decided to postpone any decisions about his future until after the tournament. "I want to play in the Champions League one day," he stated last month. Sevilla's intention is to obtain around €20 million for his transfer if a suitable offer materialises.
On the other hand, Djibril Sow also has suitors. Several clubs have inquired about the conditions for the midfielder's departure, although no formal offers have been received so far. The player, who last season agreed to renegotiate his contract to help the club with registrations, has an estimated market value of €7.5 million, according to Transfermarkt.
