The City Council of Seville has presented the cultural programme from September 3 to 9, featuring traditional theatre in the Parque de María Luisa, concerts at the Real Alcázar, and flamenco festivals in the neighbourhoods.
The cultural agenda of Seville for the first week of September combines tradition and avant-garde with a dozen scenic and musical proposals. The programme, driven by the Tourism and Culture Department of the City Council of Seville, includes everything from the one-act plays of the Álvarez Quintero Brothers to the second edition of the Macarena Flamenco Festival.
The delegate for Tourism and Culture, Angie Moreno, has defended an offer that "reflects the richness and diversity of Seville's culture that we want to keep present in the streets and in the neighbourhoods, from our popular traditions to the new forms of flamenco expression."
One of the highlights comes from the Giraldillo de Comedias company, directed by Rocío Rodríguez, which will perform 'Soñó Sevilla bajo las estrellas' on September 3, 4, and 5 at 21:30 on the façade of the Museum of Arts and Popular Customs, in the Parque de María Luisa. The production revives the one-act play 'La esposa y la chismosa', by the Álvarez Quintero Brothers, and the comic play 'La casa de los milagros', by Enrique Paradas and Joaquín Jiménez, with free access until full capacity.
This theatrical event coincides with the 150th anniversary of the birth of Aníbal González, the architect of the pavilion that now houses the museum and was built for the Ibero-American Exhibition of 1929. The City Council aims to establish a dialogue between theatre, heritage, and memory.
The Real Alcázar maintains its evening event with the 27th edition of 'Noches en los Jardines del Real Alcázar', which has scheduled 63 concerts between June 25 and September 19 in the Garden of the Cenador de la Alcoba. Performances begin at 22:30 and tickets can be purchased on the Actidea website.
This week features concerts by Macarena Martínez and Jorge Gresa (September 3), Mariví Blasco and Álex Pernas (September 4), Eternum Saxophon Quartet (September 5), Pájaro Guitar Duo (September 8), and Graci Rodríguez and Manuel Soto "Noly" (September 9).
The 5th Festival of Popular Music Pepe Suero will take place on Friday, September 4 at 21:30 in the Plaza Poeta Miguel Hernández, featuring Arturo Pareja-Obregón, Fraskito, Javielito de la Cava, and Bella de Sousa. The event, directed by Antonio Ortega, explores author songs and Andalusian root music, with free entry until full capacity.
The most genuine flamenco will arrive on Saturday, September 5 with the 2nd edition of the Macarena Flamenco Festival, which pays tribute to the singer José de la Tomasa. The lineup includes Potito, Antonio Reyes, Remedios Reyes, Manuel de la Tomasa, and Manuela Amador Carrasco, among others, starting at 21:30 in the Plaza Virgen del Pilar, in the Barzola neighbourhood.
The programme is completed with the exhibition 'La noche azul. Ópera Flamenca en la colección de Carlos Martín Ballester', which brings together 328 pieces including posters, gramophone records, gramophones, and unpublished documentation about Flamenco Opera from the 1920s to the 1950s. The exhibition, curated by Carlos Martín Ballester and Zaida Hernández-Úrculo, will be open to visit as part of the Flamenco Biennial.
