Seville City Council presents the cultural agenda from September 17 to 23, which includes the end of the Nights in the Gardens of the Royal Alcázar and the new exhibition 'Jondografía' at Factoría Cultural.
The cultural programme of Seville for the week of September 17 to 23 arrives with the closure of one of the most anticipated events of the summer: the Nights in the Gardens of the Royal Alcázar. This XXVII edition, which began on June 25, has offered a total of 63 concerts in the Garden of the Cenador de la Alcoba. The final recitals will take place on September 17, 18, and 19, all at 22:30 hours, with tickets priced at a flat rate of 7 euros available on the official website.
The delegate for Tourism and Culture, Angie Moreno, has highlighted that the council continues to bet on a varied cultural offering. In her words, "we continue to build a plural cultural offer, with major events and new proposals that expand the ways to engage with culture in Seville".
Among the new features of the week, on September 18, the exhibition 'Jondografía. The photographic language of flamenco', by photographer Ramón San Pablo, will be inaugurated at Factoría Cultural (Polígono Sur). The exhibition, which can be visited until October 18, offers a contemporary perspective on flamenco through portraits of fourteen figures of singing, guitar playing, and dancing, captured offstage, in studios and natural settings. The exhibition includes physical elements such as anvils, hammers, straw bales, capes, and chairs, creating a three-dimensional experience. Access is free until capacity is reached, open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00, and Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00.
The XXIV Flamenco Biennial continues its programme until October 3 with world premieres and unique nights in various venues across the city. This edition commemorates the centenary of the peak of Flamenco Opera and the golden generation of La Niña de los Peines, Manuel Vallejo, and Pepe Marchena. Tickets are available on the Biennial's website.
Additionally, the Royal Artillery Factory offers guided tours on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 hours, featuring a tour of the building and the exhibitions 'Hierve el huerto, ¡Oh, oh!', by Irene Infantes, and 'Te dormirás y soñarás con la canción de las flores', by Raquel Algaba. The latter exhibition, which reflects on the myth of the lotus eaters, closes on Sunday, September 20. Workshops related to these exhibitions are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 11:30 hours.
On Fridays at 10:00 hours, guided tours are conducted for the exhibition 'Masterpieces of Sevillian Painting' at the Lower Chapter Hall of Seville City Hall. The exhibition includes works such as Portrait of Fray Pedro de Oña, by Francisco de Zurbarán; Saint Peter Penitent, by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo; Saint Rufina, by Diego Velázquez, and View of Seville, by an anonymous author. Recently, The Imposition of the Chasuble on Saint Ildefonso, also by Velázquez, has been removed from the exhibition.
