The State Meteorological Agency has activated an orange alert for this Tuesday in the Guadalquivir Valley, where maximum temperatures of up to 41ºC are expected in the capital of Seville. Monday begins with a yellow alert in the Seville countryside for 38ºC.
The last week of July brings another episode of intense heat to the province of Seville. After a few days of milder temperatures, an anticyclonic ridge will cause a progressive rise in temperatures starting this Monday, with a particular impact on Tuesday, when the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) activates the orange alert in the Guadalquivir Valley.
This Monday, July 27, the day will be stable, with mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies, although the presence of smoke from forest fires in the interior of the peninsula could worsen air quality. Maximum temperatures will reach 38ºC in the Seville countryside, where a yellow alert will be in effect from 2:00 PM. In the capital, the mercury will rise to 39ºC.
The easterly wind will also be a key feature of the day, with strong gusts in the Strait and a yellow alert on the coast for winds of up to 60 km/h. In the interior of the province, the wind will be light to moderate, shifting to a southerly component.
Tuesday, July 28, will be the hottest day of the week in Seville. Aemet has activated the orange alert in the Guadalquivir Valley, where maximum temperatures of up to 41ºC are expected in the capital of Seville. Minimum temperatures will offer no respite, with tropical nights leaving temperatures around 24ºC, making rest difficult. Additionally, the entry of suspended dust from the Sahara is expected, which could reduce visibility and worsen air quality.
The orange alert will be in effect from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the Seville countryside and the Guadalquivir Valley. Aemet recommends avoiding sun exposure during the hottest hours of the day, staying hydrated, and paying special attention to the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses.
On Wednesday, July 29, a slight relief is expected in the western third of Andalusia. Maximum temperatures will locally drop significantly in Seville, where thermometers will hover around 29ºC, although minimums will remain high, around 22ºC. Heat alerts will concentrate in the east of the region, with an orange level in the province of Jaén and yellow in the Genil Basin.
On Thursday, July 30, the heat will intensify again, with maximums expected to reach up to 39ºC in Seville. From Friday, July 31, and throughout the weekend, temperatures could rise even higher, with minimums around 25ºC and maximums that could reach 44ºC in parts of the Guadalquivir Valley, such as Córdoba.
In light of this situation, emergency services in the province of Seville remind the importance of following the authorities' recommendations: drink water frequently, stay in cool places, avoid outdoor activities during the hottest hours, and not leave people or pets in parked vehicles. The municipalities in the province will activate their protocols for assisting homeless individuals and vulnerable elderly people.
Aemet continues to monitor for possible dry storms in the interior, although the probability is low. The public can check the evolution of alerts on the agency's website or through its mobile app.
