Seville renovates the median of the Feria axis with 6,300 shrubs and 59 trees

The first phase of landscape restoration, with an investment of €395,907, replaces the oleander hedge with more diverse species and efficient drip irrigation.

Seville City Council has announced the completion of the first phase of the landscape restoration of the median of the Feria axis, along the Avenida Presidente Adolfo Suárez. The project, part of the green area conservation contract for the districts of Casco Antiguo, Triana, and Los Remedios, has involved an investment of €395,907.65.

The delegate for Parks and Gardens, Evelia Rincón, explained that this phase completely renews the landscaping of the median, replacing the oleander hedge that no longer matched the desired image for this axis with richer and more diverse vegetation, in line with the new Jardín de las Cigarreras. “This is not just an aesthetic improvement, but a thorough intervention that renews the soil, trees, and irrigation,” she noted.

The work has included the removal of the oleander hedge, while preserving the existing palm trees and yuccas, the extraction and replacement of the topsoil up to 80 centimetres deep, and the installation of an efficient drip irrigation system. A total of 59 new specimens of cypress, love tree, Dutch elm resistant to graphiosis, and jacaranda have been planted, along with over 6,300 shrubs of six different species.

This intervention is the first of four phases planned to renew the entire median of the Feria axis. The next phases will take place on Avenida Flota de Indias (phase 2), Avenida Alfredo Kraus (phase 3), and Avenida Rubén Darío (phase 4).

The project is part of the municipal median recovery plan promoted by the government of José Luis Sanz, which is allocated more than €1.8 million and has already intervened in other axes such as San Jerónimo, Torneo, Concejal Alberto Jiménez-Becerril, Kansas City, and Ucrania. The aim is to recover these spaces as urban green corridors, with more trees and adapted vegetation solutions.

With this first phase, the City Council takes another step in the transformation of the Feria axis, which will continue in the coming months with the remaining planned phases.
