The Seville Provincial Council has approved a new call for accommodation grants for the 2026-2027 academic year, with a budget of €1.2 million and a maximum amount of €4,000 per beneficiary.

Students from the province of Seville who need to relocate to study a university degree or a Higher Vocational Training cycle at public centres can apply for a grant of up to €4,000 to cover accommodation expenses during the next academic year. This has been approved by the Seville Provincial Council, which has allocated €1.2 million to this scholarship programme, managed through the Culture and Citizenship Area.

Requirements and New Features of the Call

The main new feature of this edition is that students enrolled in their third year will be able to apply for the grant for the first time, something that was not allowed in previous calls. Additionally, those who were beneficiaries last year can renew their grant as long as they maintain the required socioeconomic conditions and prove they have passed at least 50% of the enrolled credits.

To access the grant, the applicant's family home must be in the province of Seville, and the educational centre must also be located in the province but at a minimum distance of 40 kilometres. Age limits are also required: 22 years for first year, 23 for second, and 24 for third, with reference to 1 January 2026. The subsidisable period runs from 1 September 2026 to 15 July 2027.

The Deputy for Culture and Citizenship, Casimiro Fernández, stated that the aim is to “compensate for unfavourable socioeconomic situations and ensure access to academic training for young people in the province.”

Grant Criteria and Compatibility

The grants will be awarded through competitive concurrence, evaluating socioeconomic, family, academic, and territorial criteria. This means that not all applicants will receive the same amount; priority will be given to those in greater need. Furthermore, these grants are incompatible with any other public or private subsidy intended for the same purpose, so students must choose between this aid or similar ones.

The maximum amount of €4,000 is intended to cover accommodation expenses for the entire course, although the exact amount will depend on the assessment of each application. Payment will be made in full after the final resolution of the call, so beneficiaries will need to advance the expenses until then.

How and When to Apply for the Grants

Applications must be submitted exclusively online through the Unique Electronic Registry of the Seville Provincial Council's Electronic Headquarters. The application period will open once the resolution is published in the Official Bulletin of the Province and on the institution's Electronic Board. The complete bases are already available on the Provincial Council's website, where interested parties can consult all the requirements and necessary documentation.

For students from municipalities such as Estepa, Marinaleda, or Cazalla de la Sierra, who often have to travel to the capital or other cities to study, this aid can represent significant financial relief. The Provincial Council reminds that the aim is to facilitate equal opportunities, especially for those young people from rural backgrounds with fewer resources.

In short, an opportunity for students from Seville to focus on their studies without the worry of covering accommodation costs far from home. We just have to wait for the official publication to start processing applications.
