The Urban Planning Department has started work to recover twenty parking spaces on Avenida de Llanes, in the Macarena district, which were removed 18 years ago. The project has a budget of €45,000 and an execution period of two months.
The recovery works for parking spaces on Avenida de Llanes, in the Macarena district of Seville, began this week. The project, promoted by the Urban Planning Department of Seville City Council, will enable twenty parking spaces to be created over a stretch of about 86 linear meters, between Avenida de Miraflores and Calle Santa María de las Rocinas.
The project includes the creation of two cordon parking sections, measuring 42 and 44 meters in length respectively, along with a third section on the opposite pavement, in the space previously occupied by a bus stop that was relocated a few months ago. The total investment amounts to €45,000 and the work has a two-month execution period.
The Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, visited the area to supervise the start of the works and highlighted that "with this action we are returning to the residents of Macarena a parking facility they have been requesting for almost two decades." Sanz emphasized that the recovery of these spaces "represents a direct improvement in the mobility of the neighbourhood and, therefore, an improvement in the quality of life for residents."
One million euros in works in Macarena
This action is part of a package of works that Seville City Council has developed in the Macarena district over the past year, with a total investment of around one million euros. Among the most recent interventions is the redevelopment of Calle Artesanos Peluqueros, which began at the end of June with a budget of €461,000, and includes improvements to pedestrian access, road renewal, drainage, and public lighting.
The resurfacing of Avenida de Pino Montano, in its stretch of the Macarena district, has also been completed, a road of nearly 700 meters that has received a new pavement after five days of work and an investment of over €140,000. The City Council points out that this avenue had not seen significant interventions for decades.
Other streets and avenues in the district that have undergone improvements in the past year include San Juan de la Salle, Alcalde Manuel del Valle, La Barzola, Jara, Romero Petunia, Parque Miraflores, and Escultor Francisco Buiza, among others. The municipal government has prioritised road safety and pavement renewal in areas that, according to municipal sources, "had gone years without interventions."
Redevelopments and improvements in neighbourhoods
In addition to the resurfacing works, the City Council has carried out comprehensive redevelopments on several streets in the district. These include Calle Doctor Antonio Herrera Carmona, in La Carrasca; Plaza Blanca Paloma; Camino de Cantalobos, in the Los Príncipes neighbourhood; and the streets Madreselva, Fedra, Estanislao del Campo López, Gáspar de Alvear, Bermúdez Plata, and Martínez Sierra. These actions have included improvements to pavements, drainage, and lighting, addressing long-standing community demands.
The mayor has reminded that the municipal government has also acted to improve road safety on roads such as Fernández de Guadalupe, José María Izquierdo, Algámitas, Palma del Río, Fray Isidoro de Sevilla, León XIII, Otoño (now Amigos de la Cruz), and the bus lanes of Sor Francisca Dorotea, Doctor Leal Castaño, and Ronda Pío XII, among others. "Many streets have emerged from neglect after years without interventions," Sanz stated.
With these works, Seville City Council aims to improve mobility and quality of life for the residents of Macarena, a district that, according to the local government, "has traditionally been overlooked in terms of investments." The expectation is that the new parking spaces on Avenida de Llanes will be operational before the end of the year.
