The mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, visited several educational centres this Thursday coinciding with the start of the school year. The mayor emphasised that the City Council has invested €5.6 million in upgrading 49 schools in recent months.
The mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, toured the private schools Las Irlandesas de Bami and Padres Blancos, as well as CEIP Tartessos, in Sevilla Este, where the City Council has carried out a comprehensive renovation. The work at this last centre included painting all the facilities and improving three areas for preschool in the playgrounds.
During the visit, Sanz defended the municipal government's effort to improve the condition of public schools and correct what he described as years of neglect and underinvestment.

The mayor recalled that, since the beginning of his term, the City Council was clear that the centres needed “more investment, more maintenance, and above all, more attention.” According to his data, only in recent months, 49 schools have been upgraded with an investment of €5.6 million, an amount that is part of the €25 million allocated to public schools in the last three years.
The mayor highlighted CEIP Tartessos as an example of these actions, due to the comprehensive improvement of its image and conditions. Furthermore, he stressed that the municipal commitment is not limited to construction but also includes maintenance and cleaning throughout the school year.
“Caring for a school is not just about doing construction work. It is about maintaining and looking after it every day. And we also wanted to change things in that regard”
In this area, the 108 public schools in Seville will benefit this year from the Clean Schools Plan, a new cleaning model with individualised planning for each centre, tailored to their facilities and needs.
The plan includes a minimum of 389 workers for the cleaning of the 108 schools, which means an average of 3.6 workers per centre and nearly doubling the existing staff. It also includes cleaning services in the morning and during weekends, state-of-the-art machinery, and greater control and monitoring of the service.
“Each school has its own cleaning plan, adapted to its reality, its facilities, and its needs. We have strengthened the staff, incorporated morning and weekend cleaning, new machinery, and, additionally, increased control and monitoring to adapt the service to the real needs of each centre”
Sanz added that the City Council's commitment is “to take care of our schools every day and continue improving them,” and acknowledged that “there is still much to be done” for children to have the public schools they deserve.
To conclude, the mayor congratulated the educational community of Seville on the start of the new term.

The improvements in the centres are already noticeable in the daily lives of thousands of Seville families, who have returned to taking their children to class this week. The cleaning plan will be implemented throughout the year in the 108 public schools in the city.
