The municipal cleaning company of Seville has acquired six new vehicles to perform cleaning with water at 90 degrees and high pressure. The investment, exceeding 1.7 million, aims to eliminate tough stains in areas of high foot traffic.
The municipal cleaning company of Seville, Lipasam, has incorporated six new vehicles specialised in hot water pressure cleaning. The investment, which surpasses 1.7 million euros, is the largest the company has made to date in deep cleaning machinery, as reported by the Cleaning Delegate, Evelia Rincón.
These machines, known as decapadoras, use water at a temperature of 90 degrees Celsius and a pressure of 250 kilograms per square centimetre. This system allows for the removal of stains and dirt that cannot be eliminated with conventional cleaning methods, such as mechanical sweeping or traditional washing.
The vehicles will be distributed among all Lipasam auxiliary parks in the city, aiming to cover the eleven municipal districts. The work will begin in areas with the highest foot traffic, such as squares and commercial sidewalks, and will gradually extend to the rest of the neighbourhoods.
Cleaning with decapadoras is slower than other types of washing due to the process it employs, so it will be carried out in the morning shift. However, it allows for a more thorough action on specific surfaces where grease, stains, or embedded dirt accumulate. Each treated area will subsequently have a maintenance programme to preserve the results.
The investment in these six decapadoras is part of a broader plan to renew Lipasam's fleet. In the last three years, the Seville City Council has allocated 504 million euros to the municipal company, with a record budget of 150 million for 2026, 46% more than in 2023. Of that amount, nearly 65 million has been dedicated to the acquisition of 440 vehicles and equipment, of which more than 300 are already operational.
In addition to the decapadoras, Lipasam will launch a pilot machine in the coming weeks that combines the functions of a sweeper and a scrubber in a single vehicle. This equipment, which has involved an investment of nearly 100,000 euros, will operate in the pedestrian areas of the city centre, where it cannot make long trips.
The municipal company has also strengthened its workforce through the largest job stabilization process in its history. This increase in personnel and machinery has allowed for the implementation of a new operational model that includes more water services, an increase in work during the evening shift and weekends, intensive scrubbing of sidewalks, and a container washing service that is now carried out monthly in all neighbourhoods, multiplying the previous frequency by six.
Lipasam has called on citizens to collaborate in maintaining cleanliness. They remind that the Municipal Cleaning Ordinance requires diluting pet urine with water to avoid stains on urban furniture, corners, and facades. They also insist that waste must be placed in suitable and well-sealed bags before being put into containers to prevent spills.
With these new tools, the Seville City Council aims to improve the city's image and address residents' demands regarding street cleaning. The expectation is that the six decapadoras will be operational in the coming days, starting with the most problematic areas.
