The complaint was forwarded to the Seville Bar Association on July 13, and since then, an urgent health intervention has been requested.
According to the manager of the Bar Association, Carlos Rodríguez, the institution forwarded the complaint to the competent authority, as it concerns a judicial venue. The Provincial Secretariat has reported that a cleaning of the facilities was carried out last week and on Friday the 24th, and that a pest control company is scheduled to visit on Monday the 27th. However, the Bar Association indicates that it has not yet been confirmed whether the insects are bedbugs or another species, such as fleas.
The affected lawyers have expressed their concern about the hygiene and health conditions of the room, which they describe as "manifestly deficient." The space allocated for on-call lawyers is barely five square meters, lacks a door, windows, and natural ventilation, and does not have an adequate cooling system. "These circumstances hinder the maintenance of minimal health conditions," sources from the complaint have stated.
Despite the situation, the duty lawyers have continued to provide services in these premises since the first case of bites was detected. The affected lawyers have requested the intervention of health inspectors and a complete disinfection of the room, which is still in operation for now. "We do not know if any other lawyer who has passed through there has suffered bites," indicated a colleague of the complainants.
The Women's Violence Court in Seville serves numerous professionals daily, including duty lawyers covering on-call shifts. The complaint has highlighted the working conditions of these lawyers, who are demanding an immediate solution to ensure the hygiene of the space. The Bar Association has shown its support for the affected lawyers and hopes that the pest control company will act swiftly.
Meanwhile, the two lawyers continue to suffer from bites and are awaiting a health inspection to determine the type of infestation and the necessary measures to eradicate it. The situation has caused discontent among duty professionals, who believe that the current conditions are "unacceptable" for providing an essential service.
