Colombian singer Juanes performed this Saturday at La Velada del Año 6 at the Estadio La Cartuja in Seville, interpreting four songs that included 'A Dios Le Pido' and 'La Camisa Negra'.
The Estadio La Cartuja in Seville vibrated this Saturday, July 25, with the performance of Colombian singer Juanes, who was part of the musical lineup for La Velada del Año 6, the major event organized by streamer Ibai Llanos. The artist, known for his pop rock, took to the stage just past one in the afternoon (Colombian time), in the lead-up to the fight between Edu Aguirre and Gastón Edul.
Juanes performed four songs that marked his repertoire: he started with 'A Dios Le Pido', followed by 'Nada Valgo Sin Tu Amor' (which included a snippet of 'Besos En Guerra' by Morat), 'Fotografía' —his famous duet with Nelly Furtado— and closed with 'La Camisa Negra'. During his performance, the singer interacted with the Seville audience, dedicating several messages of gratitude.
“Good afternoon, evening, Seville. What a joy to be here with you tonight. Thank you, Ibai, for inviting us, brother. Thanks to you and to everyone here. This looks wonderful, you look better than ever and this is just the beginning,” expressed the Colombian at the start of his show.
At another moment, Juanes shared a reflection on technology and human contact: “Let me tell you, Seville, that I love technology, I love social media, WhatsApp, FaceTime, I love it all, but there is definitely nothing better than being here face to face with you, living this moment, this present, which is all we have, guys.”
One of the standout moments was the performance of 'Fotografía', for which Juanes was joined by special guest Yami Safdie, an Argentine singer. However, the audience did not respond with the same enthusiasm to the song's chorus, which generated criticism on social media.
Users on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) accused the audience of being lacklustre during the performance. Phrases like “How boring, they don't appreciate God Juanes,” “How can they not be singing with Juanes? Uncultured people” or “No one sings with Juanes, not even Antarctica is this cold” went viral. However, some internet users pointed out that the event's production might have lowered the ambient volume to prioritise the singer's voice, something that does not happen during boxing matches.
Juanes represented the pop rock quota of an evening that combined reggaeton, trap, and dancehall with artists like Yandel, Anuel AA, Bad Gyal, and the duo Lucho RK & La Pantera. The Colombian was the second artist from his country to participate in La Velada, following Feid's performance in 2023 at the Civitas Metropolitano in Madrid.
La Velada del Año 6 also included 10 amateur boxing matches, five male and five female, the highest number since the event's inception. Ibai Llanos, upon bidding farewell to Juanes, highlighted that it was “an honour” to have him present. The day became a milestone for the city of Seville, which hosted this digital phenomenon in its Olympic stadium for the first time.
