Sevilla FC has announced the appointment of Felipe Segura Ortiz as the new Medical Services Director of the club. The 58-year-old from Jaén arrives after heading the medical department at Real Madrid.
Sevilla FC officially confirmed on Thursday the appointment of Felipe Segura Ortiz as the new Medical Services Director of the club. The 58-year-old doctor from Jaén takes on the role after a long career in elite football and basketball, replacing Antonio Tramullas, who has held the position for the past seven months.
Segura, who holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Granada and is a specialist in Physical Activity and Sports Medicine from the University of Málaga, has over three decades of experience. His last position was at Real Madrid, where he served as the first team doctor from 2021 and later as the Medical Services Director until the end of last season.
The Seville club highlighted in a statement Segura's extensive career, which includes his time as the medical head of Club Baloncesto Granada from 2003 to 2012, his role with the Spanish Basketball Federation (2012-2016), and his work as head of medical services at Granada CF from 2016 to 2021. “He is an expert in healthcare leadership, injury prevention and treatment, as well as in managing multidisciplinary teams and optimising performance,” the entity stated.
With this appointment, Sevilla renews one of the most significant departments in recent years, in a context where injuries have affected the team's performance. Segura will be tasked with coordinating a multidisciplinary team and improving injury recovery and prevention protocols, a key area for the club.
Sevilla has expressly thanked Antonio Tramullas for his work during his time leading the medical services, wishing him success in his future projects. Tramullas took on the role just seven months ago, following the departure of his predecessor.
For Sevilla fans, Segura's signing represents the arrival of a top-level professional, with experience in elite clubs like Real Madrid and Granada, and with a profile focused on healthcare management and high performance. The new medical director has already begun working at the training facilities, where he has met with the coaching staff and the first team's medical services.
Sevilla did not specify the duration of the contract or the economic details of the agreement, but club sources have confirmed that it is a long-term commitment to consolidate a strategic area.
