The Mairena del Aljarafe Town Hall has begun the comprehensive renewal of over 9,200 light points, which will be replaced by state-of-the-art LED luminaires. The project, equipped with €5.8 million, includes a Smart City platform for the remote management of the network.
The Mairena del Aljarafe Town Hall has launched the complete renewal of the public lighting in the municipality, an action that is part of the Mairena Al Día plan. The project, with a budget of €5.8 million, includes the replacement of over 9,200 light points with state-of-the-art LED luminaires and the implementation of an intelligent management system.
The new technology will allow the Town Council to remotely control the operation of the entire lighting network, detect incidents more quickly, and optimise maintenance tasks. Additionally, the Smart City platform will enable global remote management that will improve energy efficiency and reduce municipal costs.
The mayor of Mairena del Aljarafe, Antonio Conde, has highlighted that "with this new lighting, we are taking a step towards making Mairena a more comfortable, more sustainable city, and prepared for the future." Conde emphasised that they are modernising "a service used daily by thousands of residents" and that energy consumption will be reduced, which will lead to an improvement in the quality of life in all neighbourhoods.
The renewal of public lighting is one of the six pillars of the Mairena Al Día plan, a municipal initiative that mobilises €11.3 million to modernise essential services. The plan also includes improvements in gardening, pavements, tree pits, painting of public educational centres, and the fleet for Citizen Services.
As the mayor explained, these services "were becoming inadequate" and are "key to the quality of life of the residents." The plan, he added, responds to the "self-demand" of the local government to maintain and improve everyday services while developing major future projects.
The launch of Mairena Al Día is the result of work initiated in 2023, following the renewal of the street cleaning service. With this new action, the Town Hall expects to reduce light pollution and CO₂ emissions, as well as lower the municipal electricity bill thanks to the greater efficiency of the LED luminaires.
The replacement works for the luminaires will extend throughout the municipal area, covering streets, squares, and public spaces. The new remote management system will allow the adjustment of light intensity according to the real needs of each area, which will represent additional energy savings.
The mayor has insisted that this investment "not only improves efficiency but also enhances safety and visibility in the streets." The lighting renewal adds to other actions planned in the Mairena Al Día plan, which will be implemented over the coming months.
With this initiative, Mairena del Aljarafe positions itself at the forefront of energy efficiency in the Aljarafe region, with an intelligent lighting system that will serve as a model for other municipalities. Residents will begin to notice the changes in the coming weeks as the new luminaires are installed.
