José María del Nido Carrasco will receive financial compensation from the selling shareholders for remaining at the helm of Sevilla FC until the sale is completed. The president, who already earns 600,000 euros annually, will receive an additional amount that will depend on the final total of the transaction.
The sale of Sevilla FC has become complicated and will not be finalised this summer, as the major shareholders had hoped. The deal with Sergio Ramos and Five Eleven Capital fell through, and although there are new interested investors, the process is dragging on. In this context, José María del Nido Carrasco will continue as president, and he will do so with a financial incentive.
According to ESTADIO Deportivo, Del Nido Carrasco has no clause preventing him from resigning, but there is an agreement whereby the selling shareholders will pay him an amount for holding on until the end of the process. His father, José María del Nido Benavente, will also be obligated to this.
The president has already made it clear that he will not resign: “I am at Sevilla because I want to ensure the economic viability of the club and I am subject to a confidentiality agreement, which I respect. The day the majority stakes are sold, I will go home just as I came,” he stated during the presentation of the new sporting director, José Ignacio Navarro.
The amount Del Nido Carrasco will receive will be added to his current salary of 600,000 euros annually, which was already reduced from the previous 750,000 euros. The final amount will depend on the total of the sale, which the sellers hope to close before December.
The delay in the sale has caused several resignations on the board of directors, including that of second vice president Fernando Carrión and board member Carolina Alés. These departures have been justified by the professionalisation of the board and the saving of the 450,000 euros that the Carrión family was receiving. However, close sources point to the wear and media exposure that the process is generating.
Del Nido Carrasco is aware of the tension: “It is not pleasant for your mobile phone to be posted on Twitter and for you to be threatened day and night with death, or for there to be a car parked at your door. I am clear that what I am doing is necessary for the survival of Sevilla,” he affirmed.
Without a sale, the capital increase that was considered necessary will also not arrive, meaning the sporting future of the club rests on the success of José Ignacio Navarro. The objective for the next season will be survival, in a summer that is shaping up to be complicated.
