The Seville Provincial Council has launched a new call for accommodation scholarships for university and higher vocational training students living 40 kilometres or more from their centre. The total amount allocated is €1.2 million.
A student from the Sierra Norte who has to travel to the capital to pursue a university degree or higher vocational training can receive up to €4,000 from the Seville Provincial Council to cover their accommodation costs. The institution has reactivated a scholarship programme that this year introduces a new feature: students enrolling for the first time in their third year can also apply for the aid.
Aiding to compensate for distance and income
The call, which will be published in the Official Bulletin of the Province and on the Diputación's Tablón-e, is aimed at young people residing 40 kilometres or more from their place of study, provided both are within the province of Seville. The aim, as explained by the Deputy for Culture and Citizenship, Casimiro Fernández, is to “compensate for unfavourable socioeconomic conditions and ensure access to academic training without discrimination based on family income or place of birth.”
The maximum amount per student is €4,000, which will be paid in full once the final resolution is approved. In total, the Diputación has allocated €1.2 million to this programme, which is granted on a competitive basis, meaning socioeconomic, socio-familial, academic, and territorial criteria will be assessed.
Age and academic performance requirements
To access the scholarship, applicants must meet several requirements. Firstly, age: first-time enrollees in their first year must be under 22 years; those in their second year must be under 23; and those in their third year must be under 24, always taking 1 January 2026 as the reference date. Additionally, those who received the aid the previous year can apply for renewal if they maintain the required socioeconomic conditions and demonstrate a minimum academic performance of 50% of approved credits.
The aid is incompatible with any other public or private subsidy aimed at the same purpose. The subsidisable period runs from 1 September 2026 to 15 July 2027. Applications must be submitted exclusively online through the unique electronic register of the Seville Provincial Council's Electronic Headquarters.
A relief for families in the province
For many households in municipalities such as Estepa, Cazalla de la Sierra, or Los Palacios, this aid represents an economic relief. “My parents couldn’t afford to pay for a flat in Seville,” says Laura, a first-year nursing student from Marinaleda. “With this €4,000, at least I cover a large part of the rent.” The Diputación hopes that the call will reach hundreds of young people who would otherwise find their access to higher education limited.
The application submission period will open after the official publication. Interested parties can consult the complete bases on the Diputación's electronic headquarters. In the meantime, the provincial body recommends preparing the documentation: ID, current course registration, and a certificate of residence that proves the distance to the centre.
