The Municipal Library Network of Seville will offer festivals, exhibitions, and literary meetings from September to December. Delegate Angie Moreno highlights that libraries are consolidating as vibrant spaces open to the public.
The Municipal Public Libraries Network of Seville has presented its cultural programme for the months of September to December, which includes festivals, exhibitions, conferences, oral storytelling, performing arts, and literary meetings for audiences of all ages. The presentation took place at the Felipe González Márquez Library, as reported by the City Council of Seville through the Delegation of Tourism and Culture.
The delegate for Tourism and Culture, Angie Moreno, emphasised the role of these spaces: "With this programme, we take another step in the model of libraries we want for Seville, vibrant, close, and open spaces, capable of adding to their essential role in promoting reading a diverse cultural programme and generating new ways for citizens to engage with culture."
Moreno added that "libraries have an enormous capacity to create community and bring culture closer to very different audiences. This programme combines knowledge, entertainment, thought, and participation, and also incorporates new initiatives that expand Seville's cultural offerings."
The programme kicks off from September 23 to 25 with the Impro Sevilla Festival at the Felipe González Márquez Library. The first day will include the round table Impro in Seville. Weaknesses and Strengths, the presentation of the magazine Status, and an open Impro Jam. The following day, the company Improversados Epicavulgaris from Santiago de Compostela will perform, and on the 25th, Teatro Indigesto from Zaragoza will close with Impro Love.
On September 26, the I Classical Culture Days will bring classical texts and mythology closer through oral storytelling, talks, workshops, music, and theatre. Participants will include Alicia Remesal (Bululú) with an approach to The Odyssey, Sexto Mario with an activity on the Roman calendar, the educational concert Sounds of the Villa by Tintinabulum, performances of excerpts from Andromache and The Phoenician Women by Euripides by Furor Bacchicus, a talk by Mythological Archive on mythology on the Internet, and a showcase of The Song of Orpheus by the Seville Musical Theatre Association.
In October, from October 2 to 20, an exhibition on the evolution of media will coincide with the centenary of the birth of television. The exhibition will include practical activities for children and young people, such as News Report on the Future, which will allow them to experiment with creating informative content and address fake news and media literacy.
Also in October and November, the Felipe González Márquez Library will host meetings with authors of children's and young adult literature. Susanna Isern will speak on October 16; Begoña Oro on November 6; and Pedro Mañas on November 13. The meetings will conclude with questions from the audience and book signings.
One of the main novelties is the first edition of the Seville Oral Storytelling Festival 'A River of Words', which will take place from October 14 to 16. The Municipal Library Network thus revives a festival dedicated specifically to oral storytelling, with special attention to adult audiences and storytellers from Spain and Latin America.
The festival will begin with an inaugural Narrathon led by Raquel López, Juan Gamba, Alicia Bululú, Anabel Gandullo, and Jhon Ardila, accompanied by music from Rosario Solano. In the following days, Pepepérez and Rosario Solano will present Ida e volta. Migrant Stories and Songs; Raquel López will perform Loves, Heartbreaks, and Other Remedies; Noelia Camacho will present Seeds and Seedlings; and Pablo Albo will share Heartbeat. Erotic Stories.
The programme will be completed with more activities in the municipal libraries, which can be consulted on the City Council of Seville's website. Interested parties can find information at any of the network's centres.
