Local athlete Rocío Maestre becomes the first woman from Los Palacios and Villafranca to win the female general of the Duatlón Cross. Sergio Correa retains the male title with 1:07:26.
The Parque de Las Marismas hosted this Sunday the sixteenth edition of the Duatlón Cross Villa de Los Palacios y Villafranca, an event that brought together 176 participants across individual and relay categories for men, women, and mixed teams.
The race began with a 5-kilometre running segment, followed by 21 kilometres of mountain biking divided into three laps of a technical circuit, and a final stretch of approximately 2.5 kilometres of running through paths and natural spaces in the municipality.
The event was organised by the Sports Delegation of the Los Palacios and Villafranca City Council and the Duatlón Cross Villa de Los Palacios y Villafranca Sports Association. Present during the day were the mayor, Juan Manuel Valle, the municipal sports delegate, Chari Parejo, and the race director, Joaquín Castillo.
In the individual male general, Sergio Correa González from the Club Triatlón Isbilya defended his title from last year with a time of 1:07:26. He was followed by Emilio Martín Romero with 1:10:44, and local duathlete Carlos Morales Toledo from C. D. Triatletas Roteños with 1:11:19.
The highlight of the morning came in the female category. Rocío Maestre Domínguez was crowned absolute champion with 1:41:03 and became, as highlighted by the organisers, the first athlete from Los Palacios and Villafranca to win the overall female classification in the history of the Duatlón Cross. The podium was completed by Trinidad Alanís Pérez with 1:44:26, and Marisa Escalona Reina with 1:48:49.
In age groups, the male promise category was won by Juan Pablo Cano Parejo; in senior male, Francisco Javier Gómez Fernández; in veteran A, Miguel Ángel Muñoz Moreno; in veteran B, Jorge Camacho Fernández; and in veteran C, Eduardo Martín Infante.
In relays, the male victory went to Las Cabezas Power, while Gómez Baena took the female title. In mixed, the first place went to Los Primos Muñoz.
The organisation also recognised local athletes. In the local male classification, José María Marcos Falcón won, and in the female category, Rocío Maestre Domínguez again reached the top, thus receiving a double recognition after her overall victory.
“This is an event I try to attend every year because of the atmosphere and the involvement of Los Palacios and Villafranca with sports,” said overall winner Sergio Correa, who highlighted the municipality's support for this event.
Participants agreed on the good organisation and the town's conditions to host high-level competitions, while the organisers thanked the collaboration of sponsors, partners, and volunteers. The event included volunteers, security forces, medical services, and organisational staff to ensure the smooth running of the events and the safety of the athletes.
With this edition, the Duatlón Cross Villa de Los Palacios and Villafranca strengthens its presence in the local sports calendar, with wide participation and prominence of local athletes. The next event will be set by the Sports Delegation for the upcoming season.
