Over 60 pilots from Spain and Portugal will participate in the XVIII edition of the Tomate Air Meeting in Los Palacios and Villafranca, from September 18 to 20, featuring aeromodelling displays.
The Club Radio Control Los Palacios is finalising preparations for the XVIII edition of the Tomate Air Meeting, which will take place from September 18 to 20 at the flying field located behind the old School of Foremen (IFAPA). The event will bring together more than 60 pilots from various parts of Spain and, presumably, also from Portugal.
The event, organised by the club in collaboration with the Sports Delegation of the Los Palacios and Villafranca City Council, was presented at the delegation's headquarters with the presence of the municipal delegate, Chari Parejo, and representatives of the organising entity.
During the weekend, the public will be able to see models of aircraft from the two world wars, civil planes, helicopters, acrobatic models, jet turbine aircraft, petrol engines, and other large-scale models, both on display and in flight demonstrations.
The club president, Jesús Perea, emphasised the sense of community that the event has developed over 18 editions. “What awaits us there is a spectacle, a family atmosphere, and a way to practice an aerial sport like aeromodelling,” he stated. Perea also encouraged locals to come along: “Many people are unaware of this type of sport and, when they come, they are amazed to discover that such an activity exists so close to the town.”
In addition to the displays, the event will feature a bar and food service in the hangar, as well as activities related to aeromodelling. Many participants arrive with their caravans and stay throughout the weekend, creating a family atmosphere that has become one of the hallmarks of the event.
The Sports Delegate, Chari Parejo, reaffirmed municipal support for the initiative and invited the public to participate: “I believe it is very important that on September 18, 19, and 20 our town comes out to meet those who still do not know it, and continues to enjoy it for those who are already familiar with this sport, because it is truly worth it.”
The Club Radio Control Los Palacios, founded in 1993, transforms its facilities every weekend into a meeting point for aeromodelling enthusiasts, a discipline open to all ages that combines a passion for aviation, model building, technique, and sport. The flying field is just a few minutes from the urban centre of Los Palacios and Villafranca.
