The Mairena del Alcor Town Council and the Hermandad de los Remedios have agreed to move the pilgrimage to Pinar Espeso following wind damage at Pinar de la Salve. The security operation will be activated on 27 September from 07:00 to 23:30.
The Romería de la Virgen de los Remedios in Mairena del Alcor is changing its venue for the 2026 edition. The camping and events will be moved to Pinar Espeso, along with the designated parking area, after strong winds over the past year caused damage at Pinar de la Salve. This decision was made by the Real Hermandad de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios Coronada and the Mairena del Alcor Town Council, who have designed a joint self-protection, coordination, and emergency plan.
The aim of the operation is to organise the pilgrimage and protect both the pilgrims and the natural environment. The organisation estimates that around 4,000 people will attend, including those in the urban area and the pilgrimage site.
The procession will follow a strict order throughout the route. Participation is expected from about 400 horse riders, 10 carts (including the Simpecado and those drawn by oxen, ordered by the age of the brotherhoods), and around 60 horse-drawn vehicles. Motor vehicles are limited to cars or adapted garden vehicles: tractors and trucks will not be allowed.
The day will start at 8:30 with a mass for pilgrims at the Ermita de San Sebastián. An hour later, at 9:30, the procession will depart from the same point. The urban route will pass through plaza de San Sebastián, San Fernando, Avenida de Andalucía, Cristóbal Colón, Marchenilla, Benajete, Ramón y Cajal, Portugal, Valeriano Bécquer, Estébanez Calderón, Ave María, Amor de Dios, Isaac Peral, Cervantes, back to Avenida de Andalucía (against the flow of traffic), San Agustín, plaza del Recreo, and Avenida Vereda de San Agustín.
Afterwards, the rural section will run along Camino de San Agustín, Finca Clavinque, and Cordel de la Camorra until reaching Pinar Espeso, with an estimated arrival time of 13:30. The return will begin at 18:00, and the Simpecado will enter the Ermita de San Sebastián around 21:30, after passing through Camino de San Agustín at 20:15.
The operation will be coordinated from CECOPAL, at the Local Police Headquarters, and from the Advanced Command Post set up at Pinar Espeso. The Local Police and Guardia Civil will participate in traffic regulation and monitoring the procession, Protection Civil will provide logistical support, a fire prevention team from the Seville Provincial Firefighters, a medical ambulance with a doctor and nurse supported by CARE de los Alcores, and a veterinary service on duty to assist animals, with costs to be borne by the owner.
The plan includes restrictions that directly affect those travelling to the site. Between 13:00 and 19:00, no motor vehicles will be allowed inside Pinar Espeso, except for emergencies and people with reduced mobility. All cars must park in the designated parking area.
It is also prohibited to light barbecues or bonfires, and each cart, vehicle, or motor vehicle must carry its own extinguisher. Horse-drawn vehicles and motor vehicles must display the identification sticker of the Brotherhood, and both animals and vehicles must have civil liability insurance, ITV, and proper documentation.
The organisation also requests that no external speakers or sound systems be set up, nor stalls or kiosks without authorization. To keep the pine forest clean, attendees are asked to dispose of waste in bags.
