The 18th edition of Una Pará in Gines has chosen Yeguada Cartuja Hierro del Bocado to receive recognition for its work and trajectory. This equestrian and traditional event, one of the most prominent in Andalusia, will include a cultural, heritage, and equestrian exhibition on Thursday, October 1 at 22:00.
The stud farm, based in Jerez de la Frontera, will engage the audience in Gines with a proposal designed to bring the historical legacy of the Cartujano horse closer and explain its significance in the history of the Spanish horse. The institution is managed by the public company EXPASA and is linked to the State's heritage.
The Cartujano horse is one of the historical roots of the Spanish horse. Its origin dates back to the late 15th century, when the monks of the Order of the Cartuja began a selection and breeding effort in Jerez de la Frontera. The historical presentation of the stud farm places the beginning of this connection with the breeding of the Jerez horse in 1484.
The exhibition will be titled “Yeguada Cartuja: five centuries of the Cartujano horse” and will consist of three segments. It will open with the Carthusian monks, evoking the origin of the breed and the order's relationship with the selection of these specimens.
Next will be the cob of mares, one of the most representative images of the stud farm and a form of traditional handling that is now preserved by very few breeders. Its origin recalls the use of mares in ancient agricultural tasks and has become one of the hallmarks of the farm.
The closing will feature a two-step of High School, with two riders showcasing the elegance, collection, and harmony between horse and rider, as a contemporary expression of the nobility and ability to train the Cartujano horse.
With this proposal, the historical legacy of the Cartujano horse arrives for the first time at Una Pará in Gines, an event that combines culture, heritage, and equestrian spectacle. The organisation emphasises that preserving a lineage with more than five centuries of history also involves transmitting the knowledge and traditions that have accompanied it from generation to generation.
