The Mairena del Alcor Town Hall reviews its ethical feline colony management campaign, concluding with 99 sterilizations and the involvement of caregivers and technicians.
The Mairena del Alcor Town Hall has officially closed the ethical feline colony management campaign with a report showing 99 sterilizations completed. This figure was announced at a closing and evaluation meeting where the results and actions carried out over the past months were assessed.
“We have reached 99 sterilizations, a figure that reflects our commitment to the ambitious goal we set at the beginning of this campaign,” municipal sources have stated. This data represents a significant advance in controlling the population of community cats in the municipality.
The campaign has been based on the CER method (Capture, Sterilization, and Return), a protocol aimed at stabilizing feline colonies without resorting to euthanasia. In addition to sterilization, the initiative has included actions to ensure the welfare of the animals and promote peaceful coexistence with the neighbourhood.
Participating in the working group were the Councillor for the Environment, Ana Guillén; the Environmental Technician, Vanessa Antúnez; the Coordination Manager, Sara Martínez; and the caregiver coordinators, Lili Cuéllar and Rocío Villegas. All of them collaborated in the organization and monitoring of the actions.
The ethical management of feline colonies is one of the stable lines of work that the council maintains, with the involvement of citizens and those who care for these animals daily. The report presented will now serve to plan future actions and maintain collaboration with caregivers.
