The Mairena del Alcor Town Hall has begun fieldwork for the geotechnical study of the plots where 61 protected homes will be built in the La Cebonera neighbourhood, with an investment of over 8 million euros.

The drilling machines are already working on the two municipal plots in the La Cebonera neighbourhood, in Mairena del Alcor. The geotechnical study is the first technical step of a project that aims to alleviate housing pressure in the locality.

An investment of over 8 million for 61 VPO

The promotion has a total budget exceeding 8 million euros. The Town Hall contributes nearly 5 million, while the Provincial Council of Seville co-finances with 3 million. This inter-institutional collaboration will enable urban development in the area and respond to the demand for affordable housing.

The homes will be sold under the Official Protection (VPO) scheme, aimed at ensuring access to decent housing at affordable prices for the municipality's residents.

Timeline: works to begin in early 2027

The Town Hall plans to complete all administrative and technical procedures during the rest of 2026, including the full drafting of the execution projects. The expectation is that the works will begin in early 2027.

This timeline aims to expedite a process that often takes longer in other administrations. “It is a priority for the government team,” municipal sources assure.

Importance for the La Cebonera neighbourhood

The initiative will not only provide new homes but also stimulate urban development in the La Cebonera neighbourhood, an area in need of renewal. Residents will see improvements in infrastructure and services associated with the promotion.

The project is part of the local policy to promote public housing, in a context where access to housing is one of the main problems in the province of Seville.

With this initiative, Mairena del Alcor joins other municipalities in Aljarafe that are promoting VPO developments to retain young people and prevent out-migration to other localities.

“The geotechnical study is the first real step towards the construction of these much-needed homes,” the mayor highlighted during the visit to the plots.

The fieldwork has been carried out smoothly on the morning of this Friday. Now, technicians will analyse the samples to determine the characteristics of the land.

The next milestone will be the tendering of the works, scheduled for mid-2027 if deadlines are met. Meanwhile, interested parties can inquire at the municipal registry about the requirements to apply for a VPO.
