Alcalá de Guadaíra Renovates Changing Rooms at Plácido Fernández Viagas Pavilion

The works, with a budget of €344,409, modernise the four changing rooms and eliminate architectural barriers in one of the city's oldest facilities.

The Plácido Fernández Viagas sports pavilion in Alcalá de Guadaíra is undergoing a comprehensive renovation this summer affecting the changing rooms and toilets, aimed at modernising the space and ensuring universal accessibility. The project, which has a budget of €344,409.38, was supervised this week by the mayor, Ana Isabel Jiménez, along with the delegate for Urban Habitat and Municipal Equipment, David Delgado, and the head of Sports, Pedro Gracia.

The works include the complete renovation of the four existing changing rooms, with the replacement of sanitary facilities, partitioning, tiles, and carpentry, as well as the necessary construction and functional elements to eliminate architectural barriers. The intervention focuses on the area located under one of the stands, where the changing rooms, toilets, first aid room, infirmary, and storage areas are situated.

In addition to modernisation, the project includes the establishment of a new specific space for the storage of sports equipment, a demand that has grown with the increased use of the facility by local clubs. The pavilion, one of the oldest in the city, hosts provincial and regional competitions in various disciplines.

“The values of sport for the health of the population, and its utility for social cohesion, lead us not only to support clubs and athletes with the financial backing of recent grants to entities and outstanding athletes (with €250,000 between both), but also to carry this commitment to generate the best conditions for its practice,” said the mayor.

Jiménez recalled that the municipality has launched other sports infrastructures, such as the Los Cercadillos Sports Centre, already under construction in the East district, and the new covered track at Pablo VI, in addition to ongoing improvements in football fields across various neighbourhoods.

The works are being carried out during the summer period to minimise disruption to users, and it is expected that the pavilion will resume its activities normally at the start of the next sports season.
