The Riberas del Guadaíra Auditorium will host the gala for the presentation of the City Awards of Alcalá 2026 this Sunday at 13:00, recognising ten individuals and entities for their contributions to the municipality. The event is on the eve of Alcalá Day, a local holiday.
The Riberas del Guadaíra Auditorium will host the gala for the City Awards of Alcalá 2026 this Sunday 20th September at 13:00 hours. The Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council awards these prizes by plenary consensus to ten individuals and entities who have excelled in areas such as culture, education, the environment, science, or community service.
The presentation coincides with the eve of Alcalá Day, which is celebrated on 21st September and is a local holiday. With these awards, the council recognises the talent and dedication of those who contribute to the development of the municipality from various sectors.
Among the awardees is María Quirós Acejo, a Geography and History teacher with over 40 years of teaching experience at IES Cristóbal de Monroy, a school she has directed for two decades and which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
Also receiving an award is Francisca Olías Ferrera, an educator and activist who was a councillor for Education and deputy mayor in the first democratic council. She currently promotes democratic memory and local cultural heritage.
The flamenco dancer and teacher Araceli de Alcalá is another honouree, recognised for her work in preserving and promoting flamenco and copla. Alongside her, Joaquín Ordóñez Jiménez, an Adult Education teacher and president of the Ecologist Association AlWadi-Ira, receives the award for his defence of the Guadaíra River and the memory of the olive-picking women.
The stage director Magdalena Alfaro Basilio, with over 30 years of experience and specialised in social theatre, completes the list of awardees. In the scientific field, Juan Carlos Sánchez López, a researcher at CSIC in the Institute of Materials Science of Seville, specialising in nanotechnology and tribology, is distinguished.
The Grand Allegro Dance Studio receives the award in the entity category. Founded in 1997 and directed by Mª Ángeles Martín and Nuria Cámpora, it is affiliated with the Royal Academy of Dance and was a pioneer in the practice of the Pilates method in the locality.
The gala, which is free to access until full capacity is reached, will be held at the Riberas del Guadaíra Auditorium. Attendees will be able to follow the presentation of the ten awards starting from one in the afternoon.
