The Town Hall of Lebrija has gathered technicians and administrations to assess the Municipal Vector Control Plan and add measures against the mosquito transmitting the West Nile Virus.
The Town Hall of Lebrija has taken a further step in the prevention of the West Nile Virus with a coordination meeting held at the Mayor's office, presided over by the municipal delegate for the Environment, Teresa Serrano. Representatives from the Sevilla Sur Health Management Area, the Provincial Council of Seville, Tragsatec, and the local company PlagaLimp, responsible for monitoring the actions of the Municipal Vector Control Plan, attended the meeting.
During the session, the development of the plan was evaluated and new measures to strengthen prevention against the mosquito, the main vector of the virus, were discussed. Among those present were Federico Larrea, veterinarian from the Junta de Andalucía; Juan Francisco Anguiano, veterinarian from the Provincial Council; Miguel Ángel Polo, technician from Tragsa; Juan Vargas, manager of PlagaLimp; and Juan Manuel Sánchez, advisor from the City Maintenance Area.
The meeting served to coordinate the actions carried out by each administration involved in the control and prevention of the West Nile Virus, a disease that has raised alarms in southern Spain in recent years. Citizen collaboration was highlighted as a fundamental pillar to reduce the proliferation of mosquitoes, especially through the elimination of potential breeding sites in private spaces.
The Town Hall of Lebrija insists that prevention starts in every home. The main recommendations include keeping pools, ponds, and any accumulation of water clean and properly chlorinated, as well as avoiding stagnant water in pots, buckets, tires, toys, fountains, or other containers.
It is also advised to use repellents, mosquito nets, and electric insecticide diffusers, as well as clothing that covers most of the skin. It is recommended to avoid outdoor spaces during dawn and dusk, the times of greatest mosquito activity, and to turn off unnecessary lights outside homes.
Other useful guidelines include shaking out clothes dried outdoors before wearing them and avoiding the use of strong perfumes during peak mosquito presence hours. These simple yet effective measures help reduce the insect population and, with it, the risk of virus transmission.
The Town Hall of Lebrija reiterates its commitment to public health protection and will continue to implement the surveillance, control, and prevention actions outlined in the Municipal Vector Control Plan, in coordination with other competent administrations.
